WD Align Utility? Do I need to use it for non-OS drive?

I'm planning to use the new WD150EARS 64mb HDD for storage, maybe as an external USB, just not OS...do I still need to run the Align Utility or change jumpers to 7-8?

If you partition the hd under winxp/2k then yes, you need to align.
If partitioned under vista/win7 then no.

as long as the partition(s) on the hd are created under W7, all partitions will be aligned.

so yes, you can partition it under W7 and then install xp on it.

Don't plan to install any OSes on it, just using it for a storage drive.

I will partition under W7. No utility required.
