WD Advanced Format Drive

I am using WinXP and I have just get a new WD drive for storing data and it says it is Advanced Format drive. Here are my questions:

1. Do I really need to run WD Align software utility in order to use the drive?
2. If I do not run WD Align software utility and use the drive directly, will it cause harm to the drive or data? Will the performance dramatically slow down?
3. If I have already run WD Align software utility on this PC, do I need to run it again on other PC if I bring this hard drive to another WinXP PC?

Thanks.

If the partitions aren't aligned properly performance with legacy systems like XP will be degraded. It shouldn't hurt the data itself, but it'll probably suck. Once the data's aligned you should be able to move it to another system without any problems.
