lol yeah access times make more of a real world difference in day to day stuff.

Yeah, the Hitachi 7K250 can be had for like $59 shipped from Newegg regularly, which I've had good luck with so far.

Raid0, statistically, doubles the possibility of data loss due to drive failure since you will lose your data if either of the two drives fails.

The RAID 1 will take care of the redundancy in case of drive failure. And RAID 1 can help read times, not neccessarily write times. Instead of four drives I'd get three drives and a RAID 5 card.

Just Raid 0 two raptors you get reliability and speed. After having a couple "normal" WD hard drives die on me i only buy the enterprise stuff.

Funny story actually i have two 36GB raptors raided as my OS drive for several years now and a 200GB WD SE for storage and guess which has died twice, THE STORAGE DRIVE WITH ALL MY STUFF. oh well, at least i could still use my computer

Thanks! I just ordered some decent RAM and the DFI LanParty UT 250gb so I should be able to get this 2800+ to move up quite a bit. My goal is 2.8ghz.

Get two of these and a new 915 or 925 board or system and raid them with the new intel matrix raid technique and you can have your cake and eat it too Raid 0 for the OS and Raid 1 for the entire drive all with only two drives - just check out the intel site or google it.

raptors have 5 year warranties and area also built to much higher specs than these.

i bought a 36gb raptor knowing its seek would be way faster. i didnt even care that it wasnt the 74 gb with slightly faster transfer (not to mention my board doesnt support ncq, so it wouldnt be faster anyway).

i've got a 36gb raptor as my OS drive for seeks, 200 gb of other drives for storage. i think 36gb is plenty for OS stuff.

Great price. I bought one of these a year ago and they are very fast. Have no idea what I paid but it was not a hot deal. I just bought a 250GB drive on Mon so I do not need another.

dont the hitachi 7kXXX drives run much hotter than the other drives or is that only the case with the PATA versions
