WD 80GB 8MB cache 7200 RPM HDD for $40 After $60 REBATE @ CC

I got CC to PM to MicroCenter's price, although I had to argue with them over their own PM policy.
:frown:

The first clerk and sales manager refused to do the PM because of the rebates.
Another clerk showed me a more detailed sheet of the PM policy which he claimed was on their website (it's not).
It said nothing about comparing net prices after rebates.

So they finally gave me the match on the $119.

But why bother? The $20 rebate expired on the 25th so this isn't that great a deal.

I returned mine and got the 120gb drive, unfortunately microcenter stopped their 20% WD drive special so they are no longer any good for PM'ing.

I missed out. Anyone know/think they'll do this again soon? Didn't they have this deal at another time before this last one?

Edit - the $79.99 after MIR deal that is.

I got rejected.

They did not have a problem PM'ing Dell as an online retailer, however, they knew there were rebates and said their price was cheaper :| O well, it was worth a try.

Yes, they did have it last Thanksgiving. I got a drive for 79.99 at that time.

I just installed mine. It's quiet. I like it a lot. The sound is a deep hum which I like a lot better than the higher pitch of my IBM. Also, it seemed to install Windows a lot faster than my IBM (which is also a 7200 rpm drive).

CC denied me the Dell price.
Oh well, still have 30 days to find a cheaper $. Even if I dont, 80.00 for this drive aint bad...

Hmmm.... anyone have a link to the $60 in rebates? I was gonna buy it right now but the rebates aren't on the site ...

I thought the rebates required you to purchase the drive by 25 janruary? You may be out of luck! Did you just buy the drive?

Okay, I found a way to make this deal WAY hotter...found out about this at FatWallet.

BUT this only applies to those with a Fry's B&M closeby (West Coast, TX, that's about it) Fry's has this:

Linky to LA Times ad select "technology" then Frys.
La Times Fry's Ad I checked in my Austin store and this flyer appears to be national as they had the same one here.

$69.99 AFTER REBATE price - 10% PM = 62.99 + tax.

Take a copy of the ad or better yet, the ad itself into Circuit City, PM and voila. You walk out of the store with the drive for ~$67 after tax. NO STINKING REBATES. I can't tell you how frustrated I've become with rebates. It seems everyone of them are processed through these big warehouse type operations that take 12 weeks to get your money. I'd rather walk out with a great price and not ever worry about rebates. YMMV with after-rebate PMs, but since the Fry's rebate is NOT from Western Digital and unique to their store, you should have leverage to negotiate with CC.

This is really weird I just tried to reply by quoting the post above me and it says that the word "FW" (you what this word is) is not an allowed word. How did someone else post that website's name if it is banned or did this just happen 2 minutes ago.

Considering how the $60 MIR doesn't seem to be avaliable anymore, I thought this was a decent deal that's close to it.

Fry's has this drive on sale for $109 .. PM to CC and get it for $99 - $40 WD MIR .. $59 + tax is your total.
