OfficeMax B&M has the WD 80GB 7200rpm HD for $199.99.

There is a $80 Officemax rebate for this drive valid from 12/16 to 12/22:

Officemax $80 rebate for WD800BBRTL

Final price = $119.99+tax.

This is equivalent to $1.50/GB, which is the same price per GB as the recent $29.99 deal for the Maxtor 20GB 7200rpm HD @officedepot.com.

However, this might be a better deal because the rebate is processed by Young America which is the best/fastest rebate processor IMHO. The rebate for the officedepot deal is handled by the Express Group which is one of the worst/slowest rebate processors. So I wouldn't be surpised at all if the rebate check for the officemax deal arrives well before the rebate check for the officedepot deal, even though the officemax deal doesn't start until 12/16.

Wow............great deal. Wonder if we can just order online during that time and use the coupon.

If the online price is higher, then we can just call them up for a price adjustment.

Im my area the OM's have their 60Gb at $199 , and the 80's at a gawd awful $259.

Is the $199 on an 80 going to be in a sales circular?

Currently they have listed the 60Gb for $199 (minus the $60 rebate - same one as $80 for 80Gb next week)

I just had my local store place one on hold until 12/16. 199$ less 80$ rebate = 120$ (no tax in New Hampshire). Hot for a 80 GB 7200 rpm HD.

CC might pricematch the $200 price, but you won't be able to use the rebate.

does that $199 price reflect online on that day? if it is then you can use the online coupon. Hmmm wonder if they have offline coupon for office max.

Grr, I'd love to get in on this deal, but that's the day I leave to go home. Once I'm home I won't have any transportation, so I won't be able to get out to a compusa. :|

May be in stores only. I had the 80GB box in hand yesterday in a New Hampshire store. On hold for a week then home it goes.

Actually, it's $89.99 if you go through this link which gives you $30 off. This link cannot be found ANYWHERE on the Net, so enjoy it!

Apparently, some people don't understand a joke as well as cannot do a proper link that will work :p

I called OM online sales to see if this drive could be purchased through them, even though it isn't shown on the website. CSR checked and said it is not available online. He said they (OM.com) often have a six month delay before items in the B&M are available online! Go figure -- I would think it would be the other way around, but then I'm not OM Corp.!

Just picked mine up. We have two OfficeMax B&M locations here, one of them was selling the drive for $289, the other had it for $199.99.
Go figure.

Turtleman, maybe it's just me, but how did you manage to get -two- HDD's for $182.74? Are you talking about the WD 80GB HDD?

The deal is B&M only according to the rebate coupon. The coupon is in the OM rebate brochure in the store. The drive was not in the sales circular which is why you should be able to get one. I had no problem getting the drive. They had plenty in stock. If this thread hadn't been started, most of us would never have known this deal existed. I would have preferred the 100 gig @ Sam's, but I wouldn't have been able to get it while the rebate was still good.

I called-- they said they had it in stock but wouldn't put one back. I get there and they suddenly can't find any-- WTF. I asked for raincheck and the manager says no because it is not an advertised item but they will be getting more. Now I'm really confused--going to wait for another BB or Sams deal. This OM sucks !!

I went on Sunday to the Pasadena, CA OM and there were none. The manager said to come back on Weds. So today I called and the guy on the phone said "yeah none came in our shipment but you can just order it and it'll come in next day!" So I come in and of course I cannot find the guy who answered the phone. The guy who was at the CS counter was arguing with me telling me that their warehouse was empty as well and even they ordered it, it would not come in on time. What a crock.
