IIRC, retail WDC drives only offer a 1yr. warranty vs. 3 years for their OEM drives.

Just a heads up ...

(If true, ClubIt, NE, and Micro Center all have the OEM 500GB drive for $99 or less)

I recall reading somewhere that WD had upped warranty for retail drives from 1 to 3 years, think it was a thread on AT General hardware

yup 3 years now, so not a bad deal, i have a 16 month old retail WDSE and it is out of warranty, they only started the 3 year warranty for all drives a little while ago.

directly from warranty page: Effective for products purchased since August 1st, 2007. Drives purchased previously have 1 year warranty

Anyone else found the same deal? I don't want to drive to BB only to see ~$200 price tag.

I don't even bother with BB deals. They are always BiG YMMV.
Having said that, your store probably has 200 of these for $30 each :p.

Yea the thing about BB is that some stores will have something on clearance and others won't. The store close to me had a $2500 sony Bravia like 42" TV on sale for $1000 with an offer of a free $200 blu-ray player on it. It was the display model, so they were selling it cheap as crap.

I picked two of these up in Lake Forest, Ca. Although the store tags say these are the WD5000KSRTL models, they are in fact the WD5000AAKS models... the ones I bought were the last two left!

My post was SO exciting I decided to do it twice!

So, while we're here...any good deals on enclosures? Preferably quiet, SATA/PATA combos?

Bah! Just drove out to my Best Buy for nothing. Checked for this HD and they had nada, not even a WD 500gb sata spot.
Also looked for that infamous 22" Samsung for $160 and again nothing. However they did have the Microsoft Keyboard/Mouse
combo. I did have the ad for Staples but I didnt feel like screwin arround
