Pete777, you're great!

Did you work for a printing company who print all the flyers?

Hope you can keep us informed weekly so that we can get prepared and rush to the store when they open on Sunday to get the deal.

Just wonder how many 64MB will be left for customers on BB this Sunday. Hope the employess won't take all of them.

All I want is the free RAM.

Do you have details on the RAM - to make sure I get the right one?

Do you have to buy the HD to get the RAM free, or are they 2 separate deals?

Can I buy the RAM ahead of time and then 'return and rebuy' it next week once the rebate dates start? Does best buy let you do this?

Thanks Pete, nice to have you posting all this info!!

Well, it's not $100, so does that make you feel better?

Unless $199.99 - $30 rebate = $100 to you.

On the other hand, I've only used Western Digital hard drives since the 340MB days, and not one has failed on me. Go figure.

WD is not the best among its peers, but I won't see big problems with it. And for this price...

Here is a link to the specs:

WD 40GB

And yes, it has 20mB/platter technology and Ultra ATA-100.

You may have to buy the 64mB RAM with the drive and get a Mail-In Rebate (about $60????).

STAPELS, MY STAPELS HAS IT FOR 159.99....
well forget about coupons.... this is store is weird...story goes:

5:30PM Oct 12, Thursday 00
I go to stapels ....store manager speaks to me...see the drive and check the price it's 159.99...well well, but I got greedy and asked if I could use a coupon....she said....
the savings coupon numbers off the web...(fatwallet and other places) cannot be used on the local stores...since the local stores somewhat compete against the web staples.com.... I live in york, PA......anyway...just to let u know...if u have the money...maybe i will see if i could snag one or two more out....but somebody comment on THE COUPONS..HOW TO USE SAVING COUPONS....

Actually, the Caviar series were rebadged IBMs because WD couldn't develop its own 7200rpm drives. They were a great deal because they were exactly the same (see benchmarks at Storage Review for details) but cost less than IBMs. This is no longer the case, however.

so really what is the deal here. do you buy a wd hard drive for 179.99 then buy a ram thing for how much. then get a rebate of how much?

OK I am confused here.

It looks like this deal is really

199.99 for the drive then you get the $30 WD Rebate. Then with the purchase of the drive you can purchase 64mb of PC100 for whatever price and then there is an additional rebate which makes the ram free. So essentially you get 1 40gb WD drive and 1 64mb PC100 for $169.99 (after rebates). IS THIS RIGHT???????????

This deal still blows, read the forums, there are better deals on 45 gb drives.
The guy who started this with a weak explanation hasnt replied back.

Not for me....

Yes, we need more details. I doubt you can get the free ram on its own, though that would be nice. You may have to send some kind of proof of the hard drive purchase and the ram purchase..such as the capacity sticker on the hard drive.
