WD 400GB SATA/150 for $149.99 @ Costco, YMMV

At my local Costco (San Jose), I saw these at $189 last week, they lowered to $149.99 this week for some reason, no coupons or rebates needed. Not sure if they're at all Costco's, and I couldn't find any internal drives online at Costco.com. I believe I've read these are among the quietest and coolest drives of this size.

WD4000KDRTLC - 400 GB, SATA/150, 16MB Cache, 7200 RPM. Comes with the SecureConnect cable, as well as a SATA card, in case you need it.

I'm unsure if Costco's lifetime guarantee includes harddrives, anyone have experience?

That's a good price even w/o the card. If Costco's satisfaction guarantee covers this beyond the manufacturer's 1 year warranty, will be HOT!

which one, the one on senter rd or one on almaden. I didn't notice it at the senter costco. but I was looking for it specifically.

Almaden. Look for the laptops, they're under them on the bottom shelf near the floor. There were about 15 left on 5/10, I forgot to post about this until today.

Great deal, the only downside is the 1 year warranty on retail package drives, which is IMO bunk.

This is @ Costco so you have a warranty forever

Oh snap! Gotta go to Costco later! Gotta reload on the beef jerky anyways...haha

*EDIT: Damn..that's right..Costco doesn't accept credit cards other than American Express....guess this is a no go.

My Costco connection told me that return policy for computer is only 6 months.
Not sure if it applies to individual components like HDD.

Oh darn. I picked up one of these and did not realized It is a one year waranty. What's up with that? For $14.95 you can extend to three years, but at this price it's not worth the hassle.

Note that the SATA card is a Promise based RAID card, supporting raid zero and raid 1. It is officialy a "Western Digital SATA RAID controller" But a little research revieals it to be a hacked older model promise card (does not include the PATA connector) but nice to have as a freebee.

Got this to role a FREENAS or NASLITE server with an old desktop I no longer use.

Can't seem to find it online. Is there a way to check if my local Costco has it instock with out making a trip? Nice find OP.

Reason is that WD came out with a 500GB 125GB/platter drive, which will replace this flagship. Interesting thing is that preliminary tests ( sorry nbo source ut may have been tom's or storagereview) show that while throughput is slightly higher on the new drive, it does not really follow through on all tests, and appears to be only marginally faster than the 400GB 100GB/platter drive - for me failure of the next generation to really excell this drive makes this a VERY HOT deal.

Gotta go with Blue,,,,, Blue Cash back from Amex that is.

Blue cash is the hotness. I picked up 2 of the 500s from the outpost deal a couple weeks back (they were like 220 each) otherwise I definitely would have bit on this or on one of the new seagate perpendiculars ... i'm still eyeing that 7200.10 750 ...

i spoke to one of those costco reps regarding warranties on hard drives
he said that its manufacturer only

i will have to talk to their returns department to get the real scoup
