Try Best Buy in your area. I got the WD 320 SATA drive for $99 OTD on Monday. Product page appears down right now, but the deal was a go here on Monday.

i got in on the BB SATA drive, $99 out the door...comes with a cert in the box for extension to 3 year warrenty for 14.95
 
Just new to forum. I'm a Computer Tech. I use to buy WD's all the time. But since Seagate switch to 5 year warranty, I only use thier drives now. Beats the hell out of 1 year and $15 upgrade to 3 years. When you can get a drive for around the same price, that are great drives and be covered for 5 years. It's hard to beat that.

Seagates have treated me a million times better than any WD drive has.
 
Seagate's warranty really does make it hard to beat. WD shot themselves in the foot with this 1-year and upgrade crap. I had at least 10 WD drives in use when they made the warranty change announcement, and my next drive purchases were Seagates.
 
Also, ask for the "Additional 1-year warranty." Somehow, it gives you an instant $20 discount on the 320GB and only costs $11.99.
$99.99 - $20.00 + $11.99 = $91.98 + tax

Only catch is you have to register or activate the additional warranty online, and it pays for the cost of the product fi they can't replace it.

I just went for your link to the NE Seagate...got two.
I recommend that we promote you to Senior so that you do not get harassed.

Today, simply on the strength of the Seagate warrantee, I look for the Seagates in the H/D mix.
Truth is, I would never return a drive I had used for any reason. It would be like going to the gay bar with your fly open. In other words, inviting disaster.
It's the same reason I cross-shred all mail with my name or address on it and double fire-wall the WAN.

Yep. I didn't even ask, I just got a disgruntled employee who tried to pitch the warranty. Told him I wasn't interested, then he told me it only cost $11.99 and gave a promo discount of $20.

The price of the warranty was for items between $50-$99.99, so it only cost $11.99. Again, I may have gotten a heavily-disgruntled employee and an unwarranted discount 🙂

A lot of tech companies have paid employees giving out advice inside of these forums. nVIDIA is one confirmed case. I am skeptical, because it's often biased and bad advice given. It can harm a true novice user and it's not fair or honest.
 
Well, left the receipt at work and won't be able to grab it until next week. Doesn't amtter too much anyway since the deal ends today 🙂
 
I don't see how that really applies here. He pointed to a very good deal, paid or not. It's not like he's trying to get us all to sign up for a free ipod.
 
This might be a good deal, but I am holding off on buying any new HDD's untill one of two things: Perpendicular HDD's can be found in large capacity (500GB-ish) for around $120-ish or Next generation Perpendicular HDD's break the minumum transfer rate of 100MB/s in 7200 or 10000 RPM.
 
Believe me I have Seagate, WD, Maxtor, Quantum, IBM, Hitachi, Samsung, Toshiba, and Fujitsu drives all currently in operation. To me, the five year warranty is a plus as the Seagate drives I have just operate better, less heat, and have yet to fail once. I don't think you should have to pay for an additional warranty from a manufacturer. That just tells you that they don't have much faith in their own products.
