Buy.com is selling a Western Digitial HD 20.5 GIG HD for $138. Use the $20 coupon and it takes it down to $113. Next, I found a WD rebate for $30 so that takes it down to $83 dollars. The rebate is kinda broad in information in which type of WD hard drive it is but i believe it is the 7200 RPM Cavier 20.5 GIG because of the Mfr SKU: WD205BARTL in the top right hand corner of the rebate which matches the Cavier with the BA part. I assumed that the RTL represents retail or something.

So bottom line possible 20.5 GIG HD 7200 RPM for $83 bucks w/o shipping and handling.

Not sure... Thats what I meant by the Rebate being broad in information... I believe it is the 138 though.. but your guess is as good as mine on which one it is. And adding something for 30 bucks to make 150 and use the 30 coupon is a good idea too.

its simple really.. the cheaper one is more than likely an oem drive and will not qualify for a rebate. you can TRY to call buy.com and ask them but you won't find a csr that will know for sure... they read the same info you do. if you want that wd rebate, stick with the retail package.

Man, I paid ~$150 for this same drive back in April. Got a free Zip drive with it, though.

The retail model is WD205BARTL which qualifies for the WD rebate...otherwise the drives are identical.

I was at my local Sam's a few weeks ago and saw this drive for $99-40... I'd wanted a HD, but gues what? The deal gods must have been angry with me, because for some reason I walked away.

Next day the drives were all gone! :disgust:

Exactly, the 40 gigger was only 109.95 after coupon & rebate. Of course, BUY.CON has no ETA date for the drive and 8000 on backorder. :(

Sam's had it for $99 - $40 Sam's rebate (g/f bought if for me and she just got the rebate a couple of weeks ago)

I think they have it again for $99-$30 rebate...

It comes with a $30 rebate on the box I think, but you can only use one...

This deal is ok, but I think the best deal going on right now is the Quantum 30 gig drive for about $89 after rebates when you get them from buy.com, for $148, add a couple cheap paperbacks to get you over 150, 30 off first order coupon, and 30 dollar rebate your cost is just under $90 for this drive. Not to mention the Quantum got the second fastest rating on storagereview.com next to the pricey IBM Deskstar's. All around value is in the Quantum fireball but this is still a warm deal.

Sam's Club just lowered price for WD 45Gb 5400 RPM to $84.91 no rebates involved.I just got last one at my local Sam's. SKU# 660032. There is $30 rebate valid till 11/11/00 but Sam's is not listed as participating retailer.

$88 for a 20 gb isn't that good, almost $4.50 per gb, go to equalfooting and use the 50 off 100 for first purchase, it's a Maxtor 40gb for 159 - 50 rebate = $109!!!!
