THNX, Appreciate that but its not the same, those are the 7K1000.B with 16mb cache, e7K1000 has 32 mb cache and seems to be non-existant at the moment.

Anyway, im not so sure its worth that price premium over the WD Black.
I have a 750gb WD black and its fast and quiet, so the 1tb WD Black should be comparable and a nice "match" with my velociraptor 300GB in my main rig.

I think i'll wait for the WD 1TB Black to come back in stock and grab it instead.

I just glanced at the specs and the first thing that hit me was the 7K1000.B (new 3 platter Hitachi's vs the old 5 platter design).

Again, my apologies! 🙁

Looks like the 7K1000.B beats the RE3 Series (which is supposed to be a 24/7 validated version of the black) and the Black in many tests

Of other interest, I noticed that the 750GB models of the 7K1000.B series consists of two 375GB platters (I know that 500GB platter drives are out now) which is kind of odd for a 750GB drive (normally, platters are around 334 GB or so, IIRC).

The Green or "Green Power" are drives that have around 5600RPM spindle speed vs 7200. They also have other technology in (or not in them) to keep the power usage as low. Performance takes a decent hit as a result. While they are nice drives, it all comes down to what you need them for. I need the performance and I/O characteristics that the Black has for my storage server's RAID to handle requests from multiple systems accessing my media archive (standard and high def. recorded TV with multiple channels recoding simultaneously, as well as potentially multiple play-backs occurring by media extenders). But not everyone needs that level of performance...

If you just had a lot of "data" that you need and don't necessarily have multiple things accessing it at the same time, Green drives work just fine.
 
It looks as if Dell has it in stock now. I say looks as if because they no longer say out of stock, but now say ships in 3-5 weeks.
 
Yeah, looks like this is now dead... was good while it lasted. Dell is now the designated purchase place until they run out again.
 
For everyone who ordered the drive from Tiger Direct... how was your drives packaged?

Mine just arrived today and there was no padding. NONE. The OEM drives were re-packaged in a plastic sealed blister pack (the kind you have to cut open). That blister pack has no padding, nor does it suspend the drive. Starting at the bottom of the box was the packing slip, one drive, a second drive on top of it and finally a small wad of packing paper on TOP of the drives. What the FUCK?!?! :|

Mine was the same way but I only had one drive. It was shifting around in the box when I picked it up. They should have at least used more packing paper on the bottom and the top or peanuts to help protect it. This is as bad if not worse as the OEM HDs that NE sometimes sends. I guess I'll have to open it up and test it to make sure it is ok. I wasn't planning to use it just yet. This sucks, now I'll never know if it's going to die early on me. No more OEM HDs from TD.


 
Yah, not happy about how the drive arrivedl, worst packaging ever got for an OEM Drive.

Installed today and seems to be running ok. Plastic casting and 2 little pieces of paper that was it 🙁
 
the drive got here last morning, I didn't get a chance to open the package yet. I guess I am in for an unpleasant surprise 🙁
 
All mine were packed in a similar manor. I had 2 per box, and 2 boxes sent. Each drive was in the plastic shell casing, and there was some paper packing/padding to fill the gaps of the box. I won't say it was good packing, but most definitely not the worst packing I have seen for OEM drives (that honor belongs to Newegg for placing 2 OEM Seagate disks, PCB board side back to back against each other and then wrapping them in bubble wrap. Needless to say there were several resistors and chips that were no longer attached to the bottom of the drives...at least I was able to get an RMA with only sending a photo...)
 
huh.. I only paide $99.50 for one shipped. How come you had to pay so much shipping? or is that sales tax too?
