For those of you that aren't aware - When BB sells something for "$xxx.97", it's a clue that it's either a local "market reaction", or a PM. Have heard and read this many times now, and was suprised that noone else caught it. RSG2-Congratulations on a great deal.....Looks like it's a regional/local thing though.

Just so everyone knows, whenever you see a price like 199.97 at Best Buy, the ending lets you know the nature of the deal. 97 cents, for instance, means thats a price match. Some store (either nationally or locally) is selling hte drive for 199.99 hence the 199.97 price exists to avoid the necessity of price matching. In this particular instance, this pricematch price happens to coincide with a giftcard deal making a pretty sweet deal, if you can find it. Not all stores will necessarily have changed their prices.

Other amounts of interest: 70 cents and 50 cents indicate the item is a close-out item that the store is trying to get rid of (will not be reordering, so if its out of stock your stuck). These can often be good deals too. . .

A little note regarding this sale... there have been reported instances of people getting the WD12000JB (WD1200BB-SE) Special Edition drive inside of these boxes for $199.00. These special edition drives carry an 8mb buffer instead of the standard 2mb. Just check the model # on the drive:

WD12000BB = Standard 2mb edition
WD12000JB = 8mb special edition

The special edition is the fastest IDE drive, period.

Best Buy in Westminster, CO has this deal - I picked up 2 and there is one more on the shelf. $199.97 + 100 BB gift card. Doubt it is a mistake because it rang up that way, looks like there is a nice regional promo going on here and there.

Best part was I used the $100 gift card I got LAST time (October) they ran this same promo, when I got the 100mb drive. However, you only get the gift card for ONE drive, so you won't get $200 for buying two drives, at least I didn't.

Hello DV storage BTW, in regards to the guy who claimed 46 hours uncompressed HDTV recording w/400mb - hope you made a typo, or you are going to be disappointed. You'll get maybe half that; I know because I record using my HiPix HDTV card and I get about 12 hours uncompressed with 200gb.

Now, NON-HDTV, you're talking recording times in the hundreds of hours

How did you get the $100 GC rebate when the deal expired on 12/29 ?

I ordered my drive from Outpost.com for $299 + $100 rebate. I also pricematched using AMEX to Microcenter which has the drive on sale for $239. Total of $139 after all is said and done. My drive came today. While reading this tread I checked the model # on the drive just in case I got the 8mb special edition. Well, low and behold my hd model # starts with WD1200JB. Happy Days are here again!

You didn't read my post very well. I very clearly typed 400GB that is G & B for gigabyte. Not mega, giga. So maybe with the Hi-pix card, it sounds like you need much more HD space than I do. Using ntfs, I get 1 hour for evey 8572K, which ends up being 8.11GB.
