DId I miss the posting on this deal? I was in Best Buy yesterday and spotted a 120 GB Western Digital hard drive for 199.97 with a $100.00 gift card rebate, leaving the final price effictively at $99.97 + tax. I think I got the last one from the Merrillville, Indiana store. Of course, your mileage may vary. ;)

It's one of those mail in deals, but Best Buy tends to be pretty good about them...

Looks like a mistake to me. Price was supposed to be 299-100GC or 199 after $100MIR at some other stores.

Congrats

Yup, the BB flyer shows the WD 120 gigger for $299 with $100 GC...I hope I get on this deal. :)

I think this is a repeat of the situation from a few weeks ago. CompUSA advertised the drive for $299 - $100MIR for their after Christmas sale. Best Buy also advertised the drive at $299 -$100 gift card. On ocassion, Best Buy *might* match the post-rebate CompUSA price, resulting in the $199 - $100 gift card scenario. Folks last time went back to CompUSA to get them to match the BB price and then take home the $100 rebate instead of the BB gift card.

Now, only if I could find either of these stores with the darn thing in stock!

gift card is a bad deal because you usaully end up spending more when you have $100 worth of gift card.

would be useful if you can sell it to a friend who is going to buy stuff from bb

Can't you buy stuff with a gift card then return it for cash? Or does Best Buy not let you do that?

I got in on the CompUSA deal back in the beginning of December. Price matched Best Buy's cash price of $199 and got the mail in rebate. Hrmmm....maybe I can get another one this time around for the same price.

240 gig RAID array? *drool*

I believe that it was a price mistake, but congratulations on a great purchase! As one who went through the hassle of buying the drive at BB when it was $199 & taking receipt to Compusa for pricematch, then sending for Compusa rebate, your route was a whole lot easier.

I was at my local BB earlier this week, & the drive was priced at $299.:( However....

as I posted in another thread, I had not yet returned the drive I had purchased at BB for the PM at Compusa, & while I was there, BB was kind enough to let me return & rebuy at the same $199 price, knowing that I wanted the $100 GC MIR. My BB ROCKS. It was so great walking out of there with:

My new receipt
My rebate form
My rebate receipt
My smiling face.:)

I would recommend to anyone who bought the drive at BB when it was $199, give it a try! It worked for me.:D;)

BTW, with my two 120gb's, my 100gb from Sam's with $100 MIR, and the 80 gb from OM with $80 MIR & $30 coupon they mistakenly subtracted $50 for instead, I am loaded with good, inexpensive storage for HDTV recording. Considering my boot drive is scsi, this 400gb worth of storage =about 46 hrs of recording with no compression.

I got me a HDTV tivo.

Watch sale/trade forum, as I will soon have several new & slightly used hard drives, 60gb & smaller, to sell.:)

Best Buy and CrapUSA have them here, but best buy said on the phone it was $299 plus $100 gift card by mail and CrapUSA was $299 plus $100 cash back via mail... I won't buy this drive at this price, but I only checked it on the phone and didn't actually try to buy it at BB yet, but why would BB be matching a price that they are already the same on? I suppose BB might change their gift card to a rebate check if you asked them to pricematch but I don't see this thing this time for $199 + $100 gift check, is this an regional deal?

For those of you who said this drive wasn't in stock anymore, Dell still has the 100gb 7200 drive for $229. with the $25 off coupon, stacked with the 10% off & free shipping, it shows up as $182.90 shipped. The strange thing is, Dell has 3 different part numbers for 100gb 7200 drives!
Part #'s 340-2680, 340-2682, & 340-2684. As their descriptions are the same, except that they are recommended upgrades for different Dell systems, should we assume they are all the same? All show in stock.
Hope this helps someone looking for a large, fast drive.

I just did this deal at CompUSA. Best Buy was out of stock, so I went to CompUSA (which offers this drive for $300 - $100 MIR). They called BB, spent about 20 minutes trying to find someone with a clue. They were so flustered by the clueless BB people that they forgot to check availability. As soon as they confirmed the price $200, they approved the PM.

I think BB is more reliable than CU with rebates, so it is not as good as BB deal. Still, it should work.

BTW, that is in Rockville, MD. Local BB is out of stock, but sounds like sometimes it does not matter.

Did it ring up/scan at $199 or did they manually adjust the price??

After reading this thread, I had to go to my local BB & see how much the $120gb drive was selling for. It is still $299 with the $100 GC MIR. No lowering of price here. (near Detroit)

It was listed on the shelf at $199.00 with 100 gift card; rang up the same way with no questions asked. I wasn't going to ask for too much either for a 99 dollar hard drive either...;)

The price should not be the mistake. Few weeks back, BB at Dallas has 80G for $129, 60G for $129 and Mag 15" LCD for $199. It's the local mark down on these item.

I called my local Best Buy and the guy told me it was $299 without even looking, just gave me the price right after I asked. Wonder if you can PM other Best Buy stores...

I early December I also go in on a similar deal. At BB the 100GB was 279, the 120GB was listed at 199. I asked the salesman why the difference, he had no clue. He went to the register then stated it was a local price match. So it seems the stores have leeway to match locally on the sticker price.

299.99 out the door at Ford City/Bedford Park which means the other local stores have it at 299.99 as well

Which BB did you had them call? Laurel? I think I may try this out as well. TIA.
