WD 1001FALS 1TB Black $100 FS w/ promo @ NE!

Nice price. I wonder if Newegg has changed the way they send OEM drives. I've had some packed really poorly in the past.

Yeah, they dont have the best packing. I havent ever had an issue, but I usually only order 1 drive at a time. It gets bubble wrapped and placed in the box w/ peanuts.

I have had the same experience. No problems with the drives that I received, shipped in anti-static bag surrounded by bubble wrap and packing peanuts.

I just got in on the blue 640gb for $59 shipped and it was wrapped in about 2" of bubble wrap and placed in a full box of peanuts.. it was "very well" packed by my standards.

I got 5 a week or 2 ago. They were bubble wrapped (adequately but not spectacularly) and put in a rather flimsy large box stuffed with paper, not peanuts. They were kept from bouncing against each other, but they weren't isolated from the box. While I don't demand packing as good as I got on a drive from Dell a few weeks ago (suspended drive clamshell in a fitted box packed in peanuts in a larger box) or from ZZF(?) a while ago (form fitting foam grid in a very sturdy fitted box), I think they can do a lot better than they do. Nothing else I've gotten from NE seems as badly packed as the HDs they ship...

If you guys want cost per gb; the 1 tTB drives come out a few cents cheaper, lol. I really want to get a couple of these but have other priorities first.

i got it last year, great drive, quick, slightly noisy, waiting another 6 months to upgrade another comp with it. still 99 is great price!

1001FALS...

At a quick glance, I thought that said 100FA1LS.

Not saying there's anything wrong with the drives, but man, that's just screaming for bad nicknames if they run into QA issues.

Ordered two of these a week ago. One is fine, the other was DOA and is enroute to Newegg for an RMA replacement.

Packaging was decent - lots of bubble wrap, lots of paper. I shipped the dead drive back in the same packaging.

I hate wasting money on return shipping!

The one drive that works is running my DIY Windows Home Server. I need the second drive for some data security. I hate running on a single drive.

I Googled 1001FALS and it asked if i meant 1001FACIALS.

I had this drive in my shopping cart, about five clicks away from buying it. but at the last second i went with the $80 seagate deal from amazon so i could spend more money on a new optical drive. i hope i won't regret that decision!

I've had a couple of bad experiences with the packagaing as well. First was an OEM X1900XT; they just put it in the box without any protection (not even bubble wrapped), luckily, the card survived. 2nd was the hard drive, same like the video card. They were all shipped from TN warehouse. I never have any problem with shipment coming from CA or NJ warehouses. I sent an email to complain and they said they would investigate. Since then if I see any HDD ships from TN, I will think twice before submitting the order.

By the way, I just ordered one along with a RAID Controller a couple of days ago and it will arrive today... finally to complete my 4TB RAID5. This drive is great!

My HD was delivered Monday and was well packed in bubble wrap. Highly recommended.

The three I ordered just arrived.
Shipped from the TN warehouse, and packed *extremely* well; enough bubble wrap around each drive to form 2 layers, and additional packing paper to fill out the box so nothing moved. Took me like 15 minutes just to get the drives out of the bubble wrap and tape!
