I don't think it was the guys that caused WCW to go under as much as the horrible storylines, and lack of good management. However, I agree to a point.

What is really sinking this WCW/WWf angle for me though, is the lack of name regognition amongst the WCWers. With the exception of Morris, DDP, and Booker T, and maybe Chavo who is a low carder anyways, the guys who are being labeled as "WCW Guys" are guys that WCW brought in late in the game when WCW was already on the way down.

They could make it a little spicier, by having guys like Meng and Regal who are mostly known as WCW guys (allthogh Meng/Haku had a sting in WWF when he tag teamed with Andre early on) turn on the WWF guys and switch sides. Jehrico could do it too, but I think Jericho is too hot right now and you don't want to mess that up.

I think they should have held off on this angle until some more of the big names came around. Imagine that they had a Summerslam or Wrestlemania 18 card that was like:

Sting vs Austin
Rock vs Flair
Taker vs DDP
Dudleys vs Harlem Heat
Goldberg vs HHH
and maybe Hall and Nash, even Hogan (who I think will be in WWF again before he retires for good) could make an appearance.

That would have MUCH more impact than Mike Awesome vs whoever, or Hugh Morris vs X-Pac or something equally lame.

Aaron - that's true. You do have to remember that not all of us are hardcore wrestling fans though (a lot of the WWF fans are all recent converts.) I truthfully don't know 50% of the WCW guys you just named, sadly enough :( It probably would bring more fans in that way having the old-skool guys but I'm not sure most of the fans now know who is who

wrestling is no different than watching a movie, tv show, or going to the theater. They're actors playing roles, and telling stories. It's pure entertainment.

As for it being a sport, no. The outcomes are predetermined, however you have to be very athletic to be in the ring and be good, it is very physically demanding. Guys feel pain, they get injured, and it is rough. No matter how much you "fake it" landing hard on concrete is still landing hard on concrete, and guys to take some really rough spots.

And Ragingbitch, that is not good! Surely you've heard of Ric Flair and Sting? If not, then you really are new to wrestling!

I can see where they're going with the Austin defends WWF as a heel angle though- they had to get Austin on the same "side" as Vince, and since Vince would be too hard to change to a face they put them both as heels. This way they have the "heel" WWF vs "face" WCW and that will (hopefully) get people to root for WCW as a way of getting them over.

I'm still totally confused about the little rally they had with Bradshaw, it almost looks like they're going to try and pit both company's mid-carders against each other, if they do this and some people who have not had real good chances to shine can come out on top then they'll be in a good place, especially with a lot of the top names out with injuries.

I wanna see Goldberg vs SCSA!

remember back in the day when WCW was a force to be recognized? I remember Goldberg challenge SCSA in the wwf...this would be a great matchup. Since Goldberg was spawn from the stone cold idea, we could really see some heat.

It would be nice to see Flair vs Foley...otho, this prolly won't happen :(

let's see...what else?

Oh yea, Kronic(sp?) vs UT and Kane!!!!! oh man, this would be a good one :D

Mike awesome is just too impressive...I dun think he should be in the hardcore thing....it should be Awesome vs HHH, now that's a good matchup :)

hmmm..oh yea, how about Rey Jr. or Juvi vs X-pac or one of the hardys...would be nice :D

And don't forget Lance Storm...let's see, Lance VS....Regal would be nice.

Torri wilson vs wwf Tori....Drooooooooooooool

Ms Hancock vs Trish....Droooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

Big Poppa Hump..err I mean Pump :D vs all wwf women ;)

Nash vs show

Now that would be WCW invasion...but I know none of this will happen :((

These kind of comments really piss me off. Wrestlers in WWF and WCW work harder and take more punishment than any baseball, basketball, football, and hockey player. Just take a look this past Sunday at King of the Ring. Kurt Angle wrestled in 3 matches and in the first match suffered a concusion. His last match with Shane McMahon he then cracked his tailbone and continued the match. Shane McMahon though deserves alot of credit. He went through 2 huge glass panels (breakaway glass?? umm..no they were both covered in blood) and was dropped on head on concrete. Now think...this is Shane McMahon why does he do this? For the money?? He's just about as rich as possible. He does it for the FANS and for the company. How many Baseball, football, basketball, hockey players can you say this about. NONE

King Edge the Awesome,
however, cuts him off with Bart Simpson?s line about sucking and
blowing at the same time, shoots all over him about being a total
nothing since winning King of the Ring in 1999 (?1999 was, like, SO
two years ago!?) and cheerfully offers to shoot himself in the head if
HE?S stuck hosting WWF NY in 2003. He finishes with a bang,
promising not to ?Billy Gunn the title? anytime soon and thus giving
the world a new verb. I?m curious as to how much of this the mark
population actually ?got?, but the crowd ate it up, and despite the
inside nature it was the most brutally one-sided verbal asz-kicking
I?ve heard in a long time. I love it

I don't think it was the guys that caused WCW to go under as much as the horrible storylines, and lack of good management. However, I agree to a point.

Top guys responsible for WCW going under:

Nash, Kevin
Bollea, Terry (Hogan, Hulk)
Russo, Vince

And others that had many factors as well:

Arquette, David
Bischoff, Eric

I think they should have held off on this angle until some more of the big names came around.

You have to advertise WCW sooner or later, and I imagine this will lead to Invasion in which they'll have a 5on5 match to see who gets the Monday Night spot, which would be much better than the early envisioned Saturday night 11pm-12am or 12am-1am slot.

Imagine that they had a Summerslam or Wrestlemania 18 card that was like:

Sting vs Austin

Not bad.

Rock vs Flair

Flair's about 200, and their completely contrasting styles would suck.

Taker vs DDP

We just saw that, and it was horrific.

and maybe Hall and Nash, even Hogan (who I think will be in WWF again before he retires for good)

No he won't, and I hope he doesn't.

<< Nash is a lazy POS that'll never get a contract with the new WWF/WCW.

I have a hard time seeing the angle here though - Austin is a heel. Booker clobbers Austin at KoTR, "invades the WWF", and has half the WWF lockerroom wanting to kick his arse. (Most of them "faces") It really isn't making a lot of sense to me.
>>

First of all, the face/heel lines should be screwed up, there are TWO COMPANIES, and to put on TWO SHOWS you need faces and heels. Right now, the biggest stars the WWF has (Austin and Angle) are heels, and the biggest stars WCW has are faces (Booker T and, lets face it, Shane McMahon) so that's the way the cookie is going to crumble. The rest of the feud, on the undercard, has to bounce around between face and heel so that the rest of the roster can get involved. Everyone can't be a face, everyone can't be a heel, it's way too complicated.

People cheer Shane and cheer Booker T, especially when they kick Vince or Angle or whomever's ass. I'm really hoping they reveal Shane has bought someone on the inside of production and Vince has him beaten and fired, because it's very annoying that they have WCW music and symbols.

Goldenbear, there is money to be made with Hogan returning to the WWF, and he and Vince have kinda made up. A lot of inside people like Bob Ryder say that he will probably return to WWF, if for only a short run, or a part time deal. Just too much money to be made for them not to come together.

And Hogan did do his part to keep some of the young guys down, but you forgot the number 1 reason WCW tanked, Vince MaMahon. Vince started putting really great shows on, and characters like Austin, The Rock, and even the most recent version of Mick Foley are all MaMahon constructs. Vince did it.

Hogan is partly responsible for WCW's demise, but I think Bishoff is by far the main reason. WCW was already going way downhill when Russo arrived, Russo just put the nail on the coffin. Nash's lousy stint as booker sucked too.

Hogan had a lot of influence, but he never really made book, he only dealt with his mathes, and really for the past year, since Russo took over, Hogan has been largely absent.

It should also be said that Nash, Hall, and Hogan are the guys that created and maintained the good run that WCW had. And when Hogan did the JOB for Goldberg in Atlanta in July of 99, that was a big thing to do, and that match drew a rating that is much higher than what WWF is getting right now.

Hogan had his day. His day is now over. No one wanted to see him in WCW, why would they want to see him now?

And Ryder, and other people, said he was going to be back at WM X7, XVI, and many other occasions. Let's just put his name away for good.

<< Hogan had a lot of influence, but he never really made book, he only dealt with his mathes, and really for the past year, since Russo took over, Hogan has been largely absent. >>

Well his matches were always somewhere at the top of the card anyway, so he really did have much say in it.

<< It should also be said that Nash, Hall, and Hogan are the guys that created and maintained the good run that WCW had. >>

Nash: see Starrcade '98
Hall: Eh eh.
Hogan: No.

<< And when Hogan did the JOB for Goldberg in Atlanta in July of 99, that was a big thing to do, and that match drew a rating that is much higher than what WWF is getting right now. >>

Yes, for THAT one night, and ONLY that one night could you consider that a success. But as good as that night was, the long term affect it infringed upon WCW was as bad as it could get.

And it really did not matter at all who won the match, seeing as how it was live, and afterward it only caused it to fall further.

And...it's not saying much when you draw something that the WWF is getting right now, all things considered. They've had a lot of shows that are out doing what the WWF is doing now.

you people are idiots!!!!! there is no wcw anymore, it is ALL WWF. the only times u will ever hear about wcw anymore are during wwf storylines.

and for the idiot who wants there to be a match to decide who gets monday night slot...... are you 3yrs old.... vince would basiclly be changing his company's name to wcw. wcw will be lucky if vince lets um have saturday. most likely they will become the wwf's nwo. face it no one wants to see wcw's lame ass characters. goldberg and the rest of them can't even act. thats why wcw went under.

I think the only reason WCW was so successful is because Big B had the guts to spend lots of Turners money. When AOL/time warner took over, things changed. no more money, AOL dun want wrestlings bad image, so wcw = dead. If it was still Turner, I can see WCW still running strong today. Otho, big B was spending an aweful amount of money....

I'm shocked at this revelation.

*gasp* But I thought Shane owned WCW and he wants to drive the WWF out of business!!!!!!

and for the idiot who wants there to be a match to decide who gets monday night slot...... are you 3yrs old.... vince would basiclly be changing his company's name to wcw.

You......obviously don't understand the concept of storylines.......

wcw will be lucky if vince lets um have saturday. most likely they will become the wwf's nwo. face it no one wants to see wcw's lame ass characters.

Yes, the fans must be cheering when Booker left, because..they thought he would leave forever.

goldberg and the rest of them can't even act. thats why wcw went under.
