Announcement WCG update 9/9/2022 ** still messed up ***

Ok. Ten days since the last no go update.
They have now fallen into the who cares category.
Time to stop thinking this will ever be viable project again.

I have not given up hope yet.... But Rosetta is in the toilet also, I can't get any units now. It wants virtualbox installed. I tried it once, and it does not work well, so I won't try again.
 
Older 5.2 versions seem to work better with BOINC vs 6.1. That doesn't change the memory and space requirements though which is the main detractor for me.

I tried to run it on a 32 core, 64 thread EPYC with 128 gig ram. It would only use 8 of the 64 threads. Unacceptable.
 
WCG MIGHT be UP ! I tried to refresh the news page and nothing. Then I went to the main site and it says its up. I can't get BOINCTASKS to come up, so I can try connecting to it, and this box is doing PG. But I thought I would let you know, it might be up.
 
Update ! I was able to add it to a computer that did not have it, nut no tasks yet, and I am trying report on one box thats has a bunch ready to report. I might be JUST up. and having problems dealing with all the updates.

I have one . The ETA calc is way off, so I won't know until it finishes , but right now will be 6 hours. It was at 8. 2 trying to upload.

BUT. I think I had 100 or so trying to upload that appear gone.
 
Woa !!! I have tasks on 6 computers now for WCG !!!! More coming, its up !

Something odd is going on though. I have 12 computers set to run WCG, but only 6 are getting tasks. One 64 core has ONE task only.

So its not totally up, but this is a lot compared to before today:

Workunit FAQ (Updated)​


Hi everyone, we've seen some questions repeated among multiple volunteers that we'd like to address quickly.

For volunteers that did not receive any new workunits to crunch, we'd like to emphasize that only a limited amount of workunits were sent out as part of a testing phase. For those of you who were confused by our previous messaging, we're sorry.

About the URL change, please disregard this notice and do not update the URL, as the existing URL is correct.

Finally, the common error that stats "Server is out of disk space", all WCG servers have an excess of free space, as does the shared filesystem. We are investigating the cause of this error and will update when it is resolved. The bug reports are a great help and very much appreciated.

EDIT: We have identified the cause of the intermittent error about a full disk on the upload server that was preventing users from uploading their results. The interface on which the shared filesystem is mounted stopped responding on one of the upload servers and the exact cause is still under investigation. For the time being, the virtual machine that is exhibiting this behavior has been removed from the balancer group for uploads and downloads of workunits. We will continue to monitor the situation. A sincere thank you to all volunteers who reported this issue.

OK, I have like 600 tasks on 3 computers that are downloading or running (only 33 running), but this is more action than I have seen since it went down in Feb. Its odd that the downloads start , then they say (while partially downloaded)

I'm getting a bunch of the download pending transfers too. You would thing they could combine all those tiny 6-10kb files into one larger container??
 
Have a few tasks pending download on an ARm /android Odroid n2+ with 1 task that appears to be running! OPN task running.

MCM and OPN still pending download.

WCG, keep going!

Edit: Hour or so later and still can't get more than one task at a time downloaded and running on this Odroid. Still OPN task running. May be the only kind that can at this point on ARM?

2nd major edit.... likely 5th edit for accurate content.... Yes!!! Success!!! OPN tasks are running on slooow ARM / Android PUTER! MCM tasks not running. And maybe they were not pre-change over? I can't remember as it has been to long. Human RAM also goes dark after power outage or just not very long term anymore 🙂 So now have 3 OpenPandemics - covid 19 tasks running successfully. It may also be that OPN reported one completed task recently and for the first time since restart on this little puter? I'm not a scientist, but maybe we need to move on from OPN - COVID 19 to Covid 23. HAHA / not.

3rd major edit. This little 6 thread box is now running 6 OPN tasks. Appears that MCM tasks are not running on ARM but still download. I seem to remember that the was the case before the IBM change over. So this little box is running 6 WCG and OpenDandemics tasks after a year? All is good, but additional tasks have not been fully downloaded yet on ARM.

Are stats working for their website? BOINC says 5000 points, website says 0

I hated spamming the retry download to get the transfers to complete, but it's hard when all the data you need to start working would fit on a 512k floppy
