[H]Coleslaw alerted me to an upcoming CPU race that I'm sure several of us would be glad to participate in. The event was created by Special: Off-Topic, which I believe is a German forum/team. You can find their homepage at the link above.

The race starts on December 1st, and runs until the 25th, Christmas.
  • I'm going to guess 0000UTC start, 2359UTC end time.
  • I'm not sure if we need to be enrolled/registered, but I am guessing we do.

WCG was the most likely project I was going to run in conjunction with Folding on the GPU's, and I'm sure Markfw is in. Anyone else? And would a TAC member sign us up, after Stefan translates for us? :)

I'll do it. Need to shorten my queues right now, though. Might need to dump some LHC, or start late. It'll be fine.

Would the team captain (@petrusbroder) see a link to join the race at this page? I don't see any instructions how to join there, or in the WCG forums, or at team "Special: Off-Topic"s own forum.

I'll do it.
I would join, but I'd have to think about the amount of processors to bring in.

I was planning to run just GPUs in December, except for the GPU host's own Xeon E5 and an always-on Xeon E3. Yesterday I switched these two to Rosetta, then their task supply ran thin, so I added WCG as a fallback with lower priority. Might as well switch to WCG entirely for this occasion, and re-engage some other CPUs.
And would a TAC member sign us up,
If it's like SETI.Germany's B'day race, and as WCG's help texts on challenges make it seem, then @petrusbroder is the only one who can add us to a WCG challenge. Unless TAC members share our WCG team captain's WCG login.
after Stefan translates for us?
What do you need translated? The "[WCG] Christmas Race 2017" thread at Special: Off-Topic's home forum? This doesn't contain any information at all, except for this:
Beginn : 01.12.2017
Ende: 25.12.2017
The rest is 100.00 % undiluted off-topic talk, and could take me a while to translate.

Stefan beat me to it:

https://www.heise.de/forum/Specials...CG-Christmas-Race-2017/posting-31396155/show/

I found a thread by the team captain Athenagoras, ran it through Google Translate, and.......it's some weird weird talk until the very end, lol when he/she announces continuing the WCG Christmas race, and the dates as Stefan has posted already. Very vague.

Edit, only read if you're really bored or would like to be perplexed for a few minutes. ;) :

The last years are marked by an illogical conception. What should be strictly limited becomes overnight: "What am I interested in my talk of yesterday." So far, the political logic is fulfilled!

And yet, the interest group with the most powerful voice echoes in a nutshell: "Wiedewittbummbäng .. bummboing ... or something like that, I make me the world as I like it."

The alternative facts are drawn by a sharply drawn silhouette with an extremely vague material and causal location, that is, nebulous pseudoreligious dumbfool:

http://dummfug.cornblogs.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2014/07/3050228_1232109114362l.jpg

A long time ago, I had set back to the beginning of the PeeZeeh era, when a hand ax was needed to start such a lame duck. After all, only functioning parts with the claim of longevity: The good old disc jockey times. ;)

One guy sat at noon on the Kettwiger and begged and whispered to me so quietly but still audible, a coward. Oh, what blissful times - starting at noon for a little walk and enjoying the weather ...

The continuity in time remains a benefit and exploitation: and we exploit the electrons in their space-time continuum so that the most distant events lead to a fulfillment of the present expectation.

In the WCG, the great power of the parallelized algorithms has unfortunately disappeared in black matter. Well, ... * Dreaming * One point per second that would be nice ...

What is written in the white arrival of the future is the continuum of the Christmas Race. :)

Start: 01.12.2017
End: 25.12.2017

So long

Athenagoras

ps. I could understand begging, but I do not understand it.

Is that a reference to the good ole days when WCG had GPU apps? perhaps?

A lot of flowery language. I'm passable at German and that gave me a headache reading it.

Sweet!!!! Thanks [H]Coleslaw!

Pffft. @[H]Skillz ;) Of course you do have the bunkering advantage at this point....but only a week! :D

I'm in the process of converting the Xeon's to Linux though, so I might be a bit more productive this round. Sure helps with Folding, that's for sure.

Hmm, since we've just had an overtake gaining 2 points in LHC, I'm inclined to continue giving LHC a bit of love, but if 16 or so more cores will make a difference, lemme know. Other than that I am all WCG right now, but it doesn't seem to reward my efforts very handsomely.

I can't seem to figure out why the stats are updating on the WCG site. I'm still seeing everyone at 0s.

I have seen the WCG challenge stats updating with a delay already during the Birthday Challenge, but didn't take note how long it took precisely. Well, it's 2 AM local time for me; I'll take a break from refreshing the page for a few hours now.

And the stats on the WCG pages typically only update like once a day. So, if the stats don't go, it may have to wait until the next day. If it doesn't go the next day, report it in the forums and hope that someone notices it over the weekend or you may have to wait until Monday.

1st day stats are still not available at the official challenge page. I took scores from the individual team pages instead. Going forward, I plan to add columns to the table for each day, or maybe the last 7 days.

Code:
Rank Team Score 3-day avg.

[H]ard|OCP, TeAm AnandTech, (edit:) and the event organizers Special: Off-Topic were pretty much the only groups who bunkered for this event. Some other groups increased their output on December 1 relative to their last November days too, but it is hard to tell whether they just switched from other projects, or had bunkered, or generally crunch more on Fridays compared to earlier in the week. By far most teams however just maintained their pre-race output, several even had a random decrease.

Looking at our "league" in terms of average output, team UK, who had a higher 3-day average than us yesterday, fell in daily output continuously during the last 3 days. Maybe they get their production back up again. Team Andrax are at a very stable level of production currently. Our own current 3-day average is of course inflated by a mild amount of bunkering which some of us arranged on short notice.

I considered to keep track of user stats too, but really, stats.free-dc.org is hard to beat for that: Here is our team page, filtered and sorted by yesterday's output. (That's in Boinc credits of course, i.e. 1/7 WCG points. Also, free-dc.org's per-day stats never seem to align precisely with WCG's per day stats, but they are usually pretty close.)

@Howdy2u2, you must have heard it a thousand times by now, but: Howdy! Thanks for supporting us here.

Edit at ~12:00 UTC,
the official stats are updated now. It says "statistics updated 12 hours ago", which is true for the data. But the page itself was only updated more recently. I had a small mistake at team kouro (rank 40) in my preliminary table; corrected.
