lol cherry picking there.

what is funny is the asinine AMD video talking about how their bundled games are faster on AMD cards when in reality most of the bundled games actually run better on the competing Nvidia cards. AMD is only making an ass of themselves with these tactics.

Look at BF3 and Crysis 3. Even in other games they are close.

I'm sick of everyone rounding down the performance of a top tier card. Specifically, AMD folks tend to do it most often, they will take something like the gtx780 and say it's only 15% faster than the hd7970, when in fact most reviews show it to be more than 20% faster on average. Hence the reason I chimed in and said 25%. But that is with the 7970GE, not the vanilla 7970. The gtx780 is more than 30% faster than the vanilla 7970.

And also lets keep in mind the 7970GE does not go for $300. There is only one 7970 model on newegg which is under $350 after annoying mail in rebates, but you're still paying $365 upfront and only getting a measly $15 back. Every other model is $399 or more before MIR.

So again with the rounding (to make an argument look better), no it's $300 more for 15% more performance. It's $250-275 more for 30-35% more performance than the 7970.

Well if 6 websites put the 780 at 15% faster at 1080p and 8 websites put the 780 at 15% faster at 1600p, I'm not sure where you have a problem with the numbers being presented.

You're right that sometimes people tend to take the best and worst of differences and try and combine them to show their favorite manufacturer in the best light. It's best for everyone when people are consistent with their arguments.

Regarding price, the cheapest 7970Ghz is $350AR ($370 before) and the cheapest 780 is $650. So 15% more performance for an extra $280-300.

There is also a Dual-X 7970 that's 5% slower than the regular Ghz for $310AR ($330 before). So 20% more performance for an extra $320-340.

The comparisons can continue on down the line and the 7970 will end up looking like a bad value at some point but in the specific comparison being discussed (7970 vs 780), the 780 really is a poor value.

It is kinda sad that two big games that AMD is pimping show the competition being faster. Hopefully by the time BF4 is ready for release, AMD's dev relationship will pay off and performance will swing in their favor. Otherwise they're going to end up looking stupid for spending the resources on that game.

Actually yours is the math fail. If you want to know how much faster the 780 is over the hd7970, you use the 7970 as the base. So it'a (152-126)/126 which equals 21%. Thanks for allowing me to enlighten you.

Christ ...

IF A IS 15% SLOWER THAN B, THEN B IS ~17.5% FASTER THAN A.

Can we at least agree on basic goddamn math, please?

Except there aren't any 7970's for $299 right now, and the 670 is tied with the 7970 at 1080p, while only 5% behind at 1600p.

The 7970 is a great card, but AMD needs to spend less time and resources making press decks and cheesy youtube commercials, and more time with their driver team being timely and reacting to their competitor's new releases in a more prompt manner.

A $299 7970 would be great, but that isn't the reality.

Over here 7970 is about £300, so about $450. A bit cheaper than the 770. While 760 is about £200, so $300.

It's always funny to see green defense turned up to maximum, regardless of the ass backwards-ness of thinking that 15-25% performance advantages are worth double-triple the price. At least you guys are keeping JHH's supercar fleet fueled up.

I look at the 780 and Titan as the equivalents of the 3930k and 3960k CPUs, which are not worth their premiums vs 3770k performance in gaming. But they are certainly fine GPU and CPU choices if you can afford them. Those who make the value/performance comparisons with these GPUs would also be making it with the above mentioned CPUs. The value/performance arguments are practically and realistically reserved for the 770 and below.

Or just get what you want and stop caring what the Internet thinks.

What? I can do that? I always looked at the charts and bought the one at the top. Doesn't everyone? Lol

Your totally right. Nobody has to buy anything. You have choice and that's great as a consumer.
