It might be a respin, but it won't be a major overhaul a la gtx480 to 580. 1070mhz + 6ghz vram should come very close to matching gtx980 in performance. If AMD was able to respin Hawaii and keep power consumption the same then it won't be all that bad.

MoAr vram + "new" chip name + "new" product name will be good enough. Hell, I think at $449 it will eventually drop the gtx 980 down to $499.

I think it will just be Hawaii version 1.1.
and you know this because?

can we have a look at your crystal ball please? I got some stocks I would like to buy.

It will be interesting to see how dedicated people truly are to AMD when Fury X drops with say a price of $700....
Will you support AMD or refuse to pay that amount of money and let AMD dwindle further down?

Will be interesting to see where people stand. The continued hope for 390X not being a rebrand and a price down to $350 and that 390X have been almost more popular than Fury X in forum posts, fortify my belief that many AMD fans are too much spoiled and not willing to support them when it counts.
Just buying GPU from them when the price is down to cost (290X) and not willing to dish out the money when AMD tries to charge so they can make a profit is maybe healthy for your wallet but in the end it may hurt AMD because they will not get enough money to grow and create a bigger budget for R&A and product development...

We will see where AMD fans stand when the 300 series drops.

Nice glorified troll bait post. Wtf does this even mean? Nothing will be interesting, especially here on AT. The dedicated Nvidia buyers here will not purchase AMD products. Period. The much smaller base of dedicated AMD fans that you refer to here might buy it, but since they're budget buyers (am I right?), they'll have to pinch pennies. The rest of us who are brand agnostic and like shiny, fast stuff will buy either one. What's so interesting about that?

What performance?

If it kills 980Ti & Titan X for $700-799, it's justified.

There's no point saying whether a product at X price is good without knowing its performance.

But I do know for a FACT that ~R290X performance at 250W gaming load is not acceptable at $449 because AMD and their AIBs have been trying to get rid of Hawaii SKUs for sub $300 for the past 6 months. For them to rebadge the same chip (no changes) and ask $449 for it is absurd.

Something doesn't look right with that picture. It may be a straight photochop. Some of the text lines are much more black vs others. How and why would a professional company like Asus make something like that? Wouldn't the text all be the same if it were real?
Silly things like a slide coming from a reputable source, looking consistent, or even just looking professional don't matter. Everything on the internet is true. For instance, I'm a French model. Oui oui.

Common sense. GTX 480 was a mess at release. It wasn't a fully enabled chip and had worse perf/w on a new node than the GTX 285 on an older node. With Hawaii, a 75-100mhz clock decrease and a voltage drop, Hawaii gains a ton of efficiency and only loses ~7% in performance. It was obvious AMD "overclocked" Hawaii from the get go to make it's performance on par with Titan. AMD underestimated how bad the card would review though with the crap coolers, massive power draw, and volcano-like thermals. Hawaii doesn't need a major overhaul because if there was something wrong with Hawaii's internals (which is there isn't since it got a full fat release and not a peep about bad yields), that would indicate something was wrong with Tahiti and Tonga and Pitcairn since all of these cards have similar perf/w metrics and GCN architecture.

And you don't want to buy AMD stocks. Please don't ruin your financial standing in life.

I only buy ipos 😎 both nv and amd are bad buys, same for intel.

your common sense is about as bad as it gets ^_^ no offense, it is just what my own common sense tells me. it is very good at detecting bs.

what the hell do you base your entire argument on? hmm, nothing right? because you have zero info on the 300 series like the rest of us.

For those that still don't believe Hawaii is being rebranded.

Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. There were already 290X cards factory OC'd near those specs so a straight "rebrand"/rebadge almost three years later as some posters here are claiming seems dubious at best.

I imagine we will see a rather large efficiency gain that indicates it is more than a straight "rebrand"

You do get 8 GB of faster memory and perhaps a die that's been tweaked for lower power consumption. Have a feeling the price ends up $399 though.

Nice chat.

For what it's worth (not much), I'm expecting 390x to have some efficiency tweaks and a slight clock bump for 5-10% improvement in performance at ~200 W power (assuming it's cooler is sufficient this time). That along with the new branding will bring the performance just under the 980 on average with just a little more power in gaming situations. The price will then be 10-20 % under the 980 depending on what Nvidia does with the 980 pricing.

I know this doesn't sound too exciting, but most people don't follow these things close enough to know the difference, they'll just see a new AMD card that is approximately equal to a 980 on average at a cheaper price with more memory. I could be wrong, just how I see things going down.

Nice rant.

But that was exactly my point. What will happen if R9 390X is a rebrand at $450 and the flagship Fury X is at $700-800? Sounds like a great risk to me, to include expensive HBM and water cooling, to drive up the flagship cost, when most AMD buyers are too greedy to pay for it?

How are the company expected to survive if the core AMD buyers mostly only are willing to buy a graphic card if its sold at a tiny profit?

I like how your lame opinions of who and what AMD buyers are, are fact in your mind. Can you support any of this diarrhea with a source, a link, facts, to show that "most AMD buyers are too greedy", or that "the core of AMD buyers mostly only" buy cheap cards blah blah blah. Support this crap with something. Your baiting is almost masterful.

Ok I think we are done here. You cant even keep up with your own posts and put things together.

Here are keywords to help you along the way:
Mostly budget buyers
Flagship increase from $350 to $700
Economy
AMD

Lets see if you can figure this out.

I'm just catching up. Can you explain how you reach your conclusions (data/evidence/etc.)?

What data?
He just said AMD people here are budget buyers. AMD have been cheaper than Nvidia for a long time. How is that not a conflict to a flagship from AMD costing more than 980Ti and what single GPUs from AMD use to cost?

I said earlier the $700 price for Fury X was an example. May not be a bad bet cosidering a 390X with 2816 shaders and GDDR5 and air cooling cost $449 according to tweaktown and Fury X got 4096 shaders, HBM and water cooling

I don't know... sales data? Survey data? Something?

All of this seems like needless conjecture. It's just 2 weeks after all.

AMD buyers buy the best technology which AMD has.
Its ownage time for AMD on DX12 anyone knows it at Nvidia its why they are trying to limit review on fcat and other such due to them are worse off.
cowards and bought out review people its called.

1070MHz suggest that it s not exactly a rebrand, unless the 390X is released with an official TDP 15-20% higher than the 290X, that is what is required if they use the same chip.

The 1070Mhz version listed is an OCed model.

R9390X-DC2OC-8GD5

I would expect the reference to ship at 1050Mhz due to maturity.
