What was with the obession with BGH? I could understand hunters because its a fairly standard and evenly distributed map. I'd say the closest thing to it in WC3 is "the crucible".

But BGH is for wussies who cant handle expanding.

says the guy that sucks at expanding. the simple fact is the map was damn kewl. it gave you enough resources to battle on a large scale. and not expanding? u must be kidding. if player A expands to 2-3 bases, and you have one, guess who's probably going to win? if you dominate the map and don't let people expand, guess whos going to win:p its like any other map, unless you suck of course;) the people that complain about bgh just can't switch gears from low resources/low units to high resources/high units.

It was fun for a distraction, but every game degenerated into a 20 on 20 carrier/battlecruiser battle, and noone EVER expands. Its not that I care whether other people play it, it was just the fact that it made it nearly impossible to find a game that WASNT bgh. I guess its the de_dust effect.

You can say what you want about BGH being a great map, but whenever I played a BGH junkie on a regular map, they got their ass handed to them.

I guess I'm more of the type that likes variety in their games. I'd like to play on each and every map at least once, always pick random as my race, and would love it if they made a random hero button.

i guess you havn't played many decent bgh players then. they don't not end up as 20carriers vs 20 cruisers. the best reason being that 20 cruisers would wipe out 20 carriers with ease. if you mixed units, a few templars would simply annoy or wipe out the cruisers. as for expanding, me and my friends expand in most every game. without an expansion you are simply poor, if you play well you'll be broke all the time at one base:p. unless you're playing against some poor newbie, u will suffer greatly for not expanding.

bgh is easier for crappy players to look good because they have to worry less about resources.

only when playing other cr@ppy players:p there are plenty on bnet, so don't get smug from slaughtering a few noobs:p me and my friends used to go on sprees, 5-10 minute games where we'd rush people to death. u had to do that to find a decent opponent. about every 8 games we'd go against someone good:p

and another reason ur not likely to see 20carriers vs 20 cruisers. what are you doing letting your opponent build 20 big ships anyways? :p only a noob sits back and doesn't keep the pressure on. if you have to constantly make land/small air to simply hold your ground, getting 20 big ships is difficulty resource wise and unit limit wise...

I totally agree with you... Especially for WC III. It meant to be a game with lots of small battles and micromanaging heros, not everyone sitting in their base with 3 mines that have 100000 gold each, maxing out their supply with the biggest units they have. It was ok for a little fun in SC because the game was geared more towards bigger battles than little skirmishes, but it's kinda rediculous in WCIII.

I'm just glad that they made automatic matchmaking system for the ladder. I can see more people playing ladder in a few years, and the "custom" game list will be pretty much all trigger maps, unlike SC, where there is almost no ladder and every game is either "3V3 SHARED NR20 NO N00BZ", or "SUPER DUPER PHOTON CANNON DEFENSE GOLD PLATINUM V5.928 WITH MASS ATTACK!!11!1!1"

well the problem with a hunters map for war3 is upkeep. so what if you have 3 mines going? at high upkeep your only getting 12gold total:p its not comparable to sc.

well, yeah, when i play with some other good players we usually hand the other guys their arses, the problem is in the random soup that is bnet finding a couple other players that will coordinate with you. you usually have one guy that builds a lot but sits in his base waiting for endgame (lame) one guy that is trying to figure something out and so doesn't build anything most of the game (lame) and one guy that builds units rather than defenses and would attack if someone else would (me playing protoss, z-lot king :))

I only play solo ladder, but I see your point.

You can always do arranged teams... It doesn't officially count as a "ladder" game, but it still effects your level and everything.

I only wish all of the maps were available in the play game, instead of just a subset. Because I'm not even going to bother clicking the custom game button ever again after seeing "TOWER DEFENSE FREE BEER GOGOGOGOGOGOGO" a million times.

OMFG

BGH... in SC you couldnt go 1 step without seeing a BGH game on the join screen. Its far worse than de_dust from counterstrike (at least theres some kind of map rotation).

The lovely thing about war3 is that even though there ARE bgh maps (!!!!), they dont count :D. It doesnt matter how many BGH maps you win cause its never going to count towards your record. I find some of the User Map Settings to be amusing and good practice, but thats about it.

ElFenix - I play on random team ladder and share your frustrations. However, I have found out that when someone on my team drops, I fare far better controlling them than they controlling themselves. Another point, if you are higher level than them, make sure to order them around and control the tempo of the game with your commands. I'm sure most people who want to learn the game and not be a jackass would follow the advice of someone that is higher than them and receive some good advice overall. I do that when I play, and I usually win, even against a team thats higher level than mine.
