Hey..all,

I'm in the process of planning up my new rig but now I'm stucked with how I should setup my raid.

I have my eyes on MSI K7T Pro2 RU + XP1800.....please give me some idea whether I should go with

four 40gb Raid 0+1
two 40gb Raid 0 with one 80gb 5400rpm on mobo regular ide channel

Also, I was wondering (in case of Raid 0+1) if I can have the first two 40gb 7200rpm and the second 40gb 5400 mix?
I try to save some $$ on the backup drive as it wouldn't do any better as a backup speedy drive.

ps. anyone recommending Promise TX2 over Built-in Raid on the mobo? any plus if I go with this setup?

Thanks

No, you wouldn't be able to mix the different speed hds (7200rpm and 5400rpm) it would cause read/write errors. Also, I haven't really read any overly good reviews of the tx2. But if you would rather go with a card I would also change to a shuttle ak31a or an epox 8kha+. I don't know if a card or built in is better. Haven't really seen a comparison before.

yeah...that's what I think. and that leads me to set up my mind on a built-in raid with dual 40gb 7200rpm on raid 0 and one 80gb 5400rpm on regular ide for backup.

To those that have raid setups.....how are yours set up?

I hope you don't have your heart set on O/Cing with those two components. I have the same board and CPU and can't for the life of me get it to stay stable past 133Mhz FSB. And if you go to the MSI forums at www.msicomputer.com you will find a TON of people have this same problem.

Also, you can mix different types of Hard drives on the same array, you just end up having the array spec using the slower (or the lesser) of the harddrives. (I.E. a 7200 and a 5400 would become 2 5400s)
