are there ways to verify what speed is my internet provider is giving me?

upgraded from 3mb to 6mb dsl... i want to verify

True that. However you would have done better to do a before and after speedtest to see the difference.

Whatever speed you see now will likely not be the advertised limit and they offer no guarantee on actual speeds.
