Ways to slow down a fan in standby?

Are there any programs and/or mobos that slow down the fans once the computer goes into standby?

i think a better way to do this is to find a setup to run your fans of a thermstat ....that way the fans will run based on heat generated and will shut down or slow down when the cpu ..or m/b is cool enough...

this will not take special fans.... just a dedicated program to run them.....

Fujitsu Siemens makes a premium line of motherboards that support the thermo-control of fans at the hardware level. No software or even an operating system is required. Whether your system is awake or in standby the speed of the fans adjusts to cool adequately. The motherboard can even turn the fans off entirely if cooling is not necessary. The boards also have a mode that will throttle the clock speed of the CPU down on the fly to reduce the heat/energy consumption.

These boards are not for overclocking but they do have the most advanced thermo-controlling and energy saving features you will find. I use a couple of them and I love them.

Some of the newer mobos that support ACPI and STR have it built right in. I recently built a new box using an Epox ep-8khm, intel 10/100 nic, and a matrox g-400 vidcard. It actually works- when the system goes to sleep, everything turns off, even the psu fan. The 5vsb from the psu keeps the program running in memory and the power led blinks. Tap the power button and everything comes back up. I've built several systems that were supposed to do this but never would, so I'm extremely pleased with my little epox for this and a variety of other reasons.
