So I ended up with a new tablet and after fiddling around with on the weekend, I found a comics app and read a free comic (issue #1 of Y: The Last Man, which I thought was just ok) and damn, this things seems like it was made for reading comics. Very cool.

Anyway, I have not read any real comics since I was a teenager, so just looking for some recommendations for tablet comics I can read. The last comic series I read was Neil Gaiman's original Sandman series run in the early nineties, that and Black Orchid from the same time are the last things I really remember enjoying, so I enjoy the darker, more esoteric stuff, but am up to give anything fun a read.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for tablet comics? Something good to flip through when I have a spare minute here or there.

Thanks!

Are you guys talking about a subscription or something? I don't think I will read enough to make that worthwhile, I was thinking of more specific series that would be good.

I did notice that about Sandman, and hopefully a movie too! Pretty tough movie to make though. :hmm:

yeah subs. the free ones are limited..

Oh ok, I'll have to check that out I guess. Presumably it's better value than buying series' individually?

I want to pay for the comics of course, I just want to know good stuff to read since I have been out of the loop for so long.

the Civil War series was a joke. it started off great then went downhill.

last really good series was World War Hulk.

Is that one ok to go in fresh? Read some Hulk when I was a kid, but most of my knowledge is from the TV show and movies.

Watchmen, Black Hole, and Wolverine would be good places to start. The first two are graphic novels and Wolverine is, well, you know who he is....hehe

I've read Watchmen a couple of times; liked it a lot (love the movie too). Is this the Black Hole you are talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Hole_(comics) looks pretty interesting.

Is there anything particular with Wolverine? I read a bunch of his early ones when I was younger I also recall some sort of special, short or new series on him shortly before I stopped reading comics. :hmm:

Thanks.

What do you mean by "tablet" comics? You can get any comic and read it on a tablet. That's like saying "Does anyone have any recommendations on tablet books"?

No idea. Is every single comic available for tablets? I assumed there was only certain stuff available that was formatted for it, I don't know.

Sorry?

To be fair, I guess only some comics are explicitly made to be viewed on tablets and sold to tablet owners. But, any comic can be viewed on comics just fine:

You can use this for example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwyLDEsIm5ldC5hbmRyb2lkY29taWNzLmFjdiJd

Next, you just need to get some comics.

Oh ok, had no idea about that. I just grabbed this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iconology.comics& which looks like it will allow me to buy them directly there, which seems much easier.
