basically i have my tv plugged into my 2nd PC as a 2ndry monitor but is disabled unless i want to play games (can't swap hardware around as would be a ball ache!).

anyway, what i do now is enable the samsung TV, make primary and then game. after i make the other monitor the primary and disable the samsung

any way to macro this?

i'm on 7 x64 with the latest cats btw.

Win + P.

You can switch between displays, extend the desktop, or duplicate your screen.

Not sure what card you use, but if you have an AMD/ATI you can use the Catalyst Control Panel and setup up multiple hotkeys for different configurations. I currently use that since I drive 5-6 displays off one card (not all at once) in different configurations.

For example, CTRL+ALT+F1 will switch over to my primary desk monitor, CTRL+ALT+F2 will switch over to eyefinity 2x1080p, CLTR+ALT+F3 will switch over to the 52" HDTV I have in the same room.

It's very useful if you have to switch between displays for different things.

i have a 6950 (flashed) but can't see where to do that in the cats. i see presets but that only seems to allow hotkeys to run specific programs?

96FB - ta, didn't know about that one. that makes it quicker to enable the TV but i still need a way to quickly and easily make the TV the primary display.

I haven't really played around with it to figure out how to switch primary displays, I only use it to go from my monitor to extend onto my TV. I assumed if you picked the secondary display only, it would move the desktop as well.

Sounds like railven's method is better suited for your needs, once you get it figured out.

Did you check under Display Options? I'll have to check when I get home (I haven't memorized the new CCP after the GUI change.)

Are you in the Hydravision options? That's the only place I can remember setting running specific programs on specific screens. The option basically only turns on when you set the display, example:
Turn on Display 1 - set hotkey
Turn on display 2 - set hotkey
turn on display 3 - set hotkey
turn on display 1+3 - set hot key

Then you just use the hotkey to switch to what you want.

Definitely check out the [winkey]+P shortcut.

But it's more than just "using" the shortcut, you can do more by configuring a particular setup for each of the selections invoked by the win+P shortcut.

So set up the displays one way, then win+P over to another setting and set up the displays another way.

I use win+P to switch between 3 such different setups: 1) main/center monitor only, 2) all 3 monitors in extended mode for windows, and 3) all 3 monitors in eyefinity mode. All 3 are possible using win+P, so I don't need to use any shortcuts or profile hotkeys in CCC.

i can't see where in hydravision to do that. it has options for multi desktop which seems to be virtual desktops only, then desktop manager which appears to be for controlling individual programs and how the display.

as for win+p i only have "projector" which is my monitor, dupe, extend and "computer only" which is my samsung TV

Interesting - is there a limitation on how many configurations you can have? And does this include HDMI audio configurations? Audio is an issue I have with the CCP method I use, and I'm hoping HD 7000 series address this.

king fatty - ta.

got it. enabled extend but it by default had the wrong monitor as the pri. changed it then winp'd back to my main monitor. tried extend again and this time it remembered to use the TV as the primary. sweet

thanks all :)

p.s railven - in regards to hdmi audio - with this method i have to go into "playback devices" after changing displays and it then auto swaps to hdmi. if i don't do this then windows 7 doesn't auto swap audio outputs. it does when swapping back (i presume as the hdmi audio is disabled at that point).

seems a windows issue rather than ATis no?
