Open up a command prompt (MS-DOS prompt if you're in 9x, Command Prompt in 2k or XP) and go to your MP3s directory. Then type dir /s > c:\list.txt. That will create a text file in your root C: folder with the dir output in it. Then you can print it out, or edit it to be in the format you like, whatever.

To get a copy of your MP3s using Winamp, all you have to do is right-click the Misc button at the bottom of Winamp's Playlist, then select Generate HTML Playlist. (You can also select the Playlist window and then hit Ctrl-Alt-G to do this.)

You'll end up with a webpage that lists all of your MP3s. You can then print the page or save it. To edit the list, copy the text and paste it into a word processor. You'll have to perform the process again if you want to update your list.

Winamp also offers this plug-in, which is free for 30 days. Then you should cough up the $13 for Anders Thomsen's MP3 Archive.

If you use Lotus Notes, try the MP3 PlayMate, a slick Lotus-based library.

You don't even have to do this. If you have Winamp, save a playlist of the files you want a list of. For example, saving it as "Songs.m3u". M3U is the file extension for Winamp playlists, but it's just a plain text file! So load it up in Notepad, and there you go, print/copy away.

I personally designed a jewel case template in CorelDRAW, and import the playlist text into it. Then I arrange it to taste, maybe add some graphics and print out the template, and cut it out. Voila, I have a nice attractive three-fold CD liner and notes to put into the jewel case of my newly minted MP3 CD.

Note: Just to add to Hender, if you want to do the DOS method, use dir /s /b > list.txt . /B will only print out the MP3 filename, minus the date, time listings, etc. etc. But you will have ".mp3" at the end of everything, which looks ugly.

Two programs that I have used in the past are:

Koolguy's Listmaker

Listmaker is basically what it says. It will make a list from the directory you point it to, including certain options that you choose, like song length, bitrate, etc. I don't use it anymore due to the size of my mp3 collection (approximately 35,000 mp3s).

MPEG Audio Collection

MAC is acutally a databasing program for compiling and keeping track of your entire collection. I use it because I archive mp3s to cds as data, so MAC is perfect for that. It will also do outputs of information like Listmaker.
