Way to mask credit card when ordering from online sites?

Say, you go to a website, you enter your credit card number, and then they give you a 1 time number to use on an online website. Is there such a thing? Is it possible? Is it secure?

Doesn't Mastercard or Visa do something like that?

You just need to hope they are using some sercurity on that website. Encryption is a nice feature
