Way to increase tips?

Twice in the last month I have noticed that it has taken a very long time to get my change and finally had to ask the wait staff to bring it.

It left me feeling like they wanted me to leave without my change.

Both times I cut my tip in half, am I being paranoid?

well, if a bill is 25 bucks and you hand them 30, I, and probably everyone else here would assume the 5 is a tip. (numbers on just blabber)

Right, but you would bring back that $5 if they are still sitting at the table. If they left, it is your tip.

Its how they say it. They act entitled to it before I've given them anything. If I wanted them to keep the tip, I would tell them.

First time was a sonic and I was suppose to get like 1.55 back. She gives me the dollar and tells me she has to go get the .55. After about 5 mins I call on the speaker and ask for my change. Sonic I normally get the entire change and then hand them a dollar.

They cant find the girl so I finally talk to the manager on the speaker who acts like its no big deal that his employ disappeared without giving a customer his change. I told them to keep the .55 and left.

Today I gave a $100 for an $83.xx bill...at a buffet. My party left to go outside and I waited at the table after the waiter walked by and said he would get my change when I motioned to him. He then proceeded to take another tables order.

Total wait time from him taking my money to returning w/change was probably 15-20 min. It really rubbed me wrong that he knew I was waiting to leave but then took another order.

I planned on tipping $10 but ended up leaving $6.

You should never have to ask for your change. You should never have to hunt down servers since they are supposed to earn their tips.

This. I hate when I go to Rita's and I see a tip jar sitting out, and the kids working there look at me like they're expecting something extra. You scooped some water ice into a cup. Congratu-fucking-lations. You've earned nothing more than a "thank you" and your $7.50/hour.

Depends on if they have looked in the little book they hand your check to you in. If they haven't looked yet then they are just wondering if they need to handle that particular check in the next couple of minutes or if they can go onto the next table and help them.

Would it be ok to tip less than the gratuity they listed based on service received?

I wouldn't really expect the to ever keep the change. I would want to get it back and then leave the tip. Or like others have said just use a credit card.

I hate the sense of entitlement when it comes to tipping. if I have to ask for my changes back, that will be an automatically deduction in tips.
