I wanted to know if the LCD looks like it's ready to snap a picture. If the mirror is not down, then how do you view through the lens?

That's the whole point, you can't see anything out of the lens. The mirror is down.

Well, with the lens off, can you see light coming through the viewfinder? Can you see light through the lens while it's off the camera? There's nothing electronic to screw up. If the mirror is down, you should be able to see light through the viewfinder. Can you work the aperture of the lens off the camera?

Edit: Maybe the lens isn't completely twisted on, which might keep the shutter all the way closed. Something's fishy, or I wouldn't bother asking.

With the lens off, when looking through the view finder it's black. Nikon said the mirror is always open and never moves unless something is wrong.

I can take the lens off, hold the mirror down with my finger and look though the view finder and see light.

That makes no sense. If the mirror is up, you'll never be able to see through the lens. By default, the mirror should be down I'd think. Can't imagine how it would work otherwise.

The crazy thing is, what's keeping it up? It would only go up, if the shutter was tripped. Does it stay up with batteries removed? Are the damn things installed backwards or something? This is REALLY queer, IMO!

Batteries were installed correctly. I'm not gonna mess with it. I already repacked it and I will just call BuyDig Monday morning to ask for a replacement and a refund on my overnight shipping charges. If they want to make a big fuss about it, I'll just call my CC to take care of it.

they didn't ruin your weekend, drama queen.

Wow. It's weird how whenever someone posts threads like this about traders with bad shipping everyone gives them the thumbs up for the information. I try to do the same thing for a particular retailer, and I get flamed.

Uhh... the point being made is that you saying they ruined your weekend based solely on not having a certain camera. It's clearly blown out of proportion in true drama queen fashion. That has nothing to do with your comments on the retailer.

Hey, sorry for your luck. I was just going to buy a Canon Rebel XT from Buydig. Obviously you had trouble with them so you're not going to speak so highly of them. But how were other people's experiences with BuyDig? And they do send you the full, brand new, shrink wrapped box right? From your picture, it doesn't look shrinkwrapped.

Go out and buy one from Best Buy or some similar place and return the defective camera on Monday to BuyDig.

BuyDig charges a restocking fee on defective merchandise.

you coudl always buy it from best buy, and then return the one from buydig to best buy,, not the most ethical or legal thing in the world, but it would work

I approve of this, only because it is Best Buy. Any other store, and I would say no. :D

Well I called BuyDig on Sunday (been too busy to update), and at first they wanted me to ship them the camera so they could inspect it, and it they decided it was defective they would replace it. If not they would ship me back the defective unit and I would have to go through Nikon. They stated the process could take anywhere from 14 to 21 business days. I basically said F U, send me a replacement now and I'll ship the defective back, and they said no. So I told them I was just going to put a stop payment on it, and they could find a way to come pick it up from my house. From there they decided they would give me 100% refund, including the overnight shipping, and the return shipping for the camera, so I sent it off Monday. Now I'm just waiting for the refund to show up on my card.
