Wave of attacks hit Muslims in Holland

An explosion damaged an Islamic school in the southern Dutch town of Eindhoven on Monday, the police said, the latest attack on a Muslim institution following the murder of a filmmaker critical of Islam last week.

The blast, which officials said resulted from a bomb, followed a series of violent incidents against mosques since the killing of the film director Theo van Gogh by a suspected Islamic militant.
...
Over the weekend, mosques in the city of Rotterdam and the towns of Breda and Huizen were attacked but not badly damaged, while several fires broke out at a mosque in the central town of Utrecht on Friday. The police said they suspected arson.

Pamphlets insulting Islam and showing pictures of pigs heads were plastered on another mosque in Rotterdam.

An Amsterdam immigrants' center was daubed with red paint
...
Far-right protesters have marched in Amsterdam and Rotterdam to express their anger at the killing, while the government has urged calm amid fears of retaliation. The Netherlands is home to almost a million Muslims, or almost 6 percent of its population of 16 million.

A poll by RTL Nieuws indicated that 47 percent felt less tolerant of Muslims since van Gogh's murder. Another survey showed support for a populist who wants to stop immigration from Turkey and Morocco from rising to 12 percent.

Geert Wilders, who is seen as a heir to the murdered anti-immigration politician Pim Fortuyn, has received death threats for his criticism of Islam. He said last week that he wanted to initiate a new rightist party to clamp down on Muslim extremists.

Europe is headed towards a disaster, the clash of Muslim culture vs the old European culture will eventually get bloody.

Most European countries have seen a massive influx of Muslims immigrants.
My cousin who lives in Paris talks about entire city blocks that the police refuse to patrol because they are so dangerous. The animosity of Europeans towards Muslims is getting really bad throughout Europe. Heck, in France they will soon make up 20% of the population.

READ THE UN CHARTER. First of all, this isn't official Dutch action. Even if it were, you don't need UN approval to do something inside your own country. You need it if you want to attack someone who didn't attack you first. Ooops, the US didn't get it for Iraq.

error... does not compute. Why should someone bomb Holland? Are you advocating terrorist suicide bombs or car bombs at markets?

Is this so shocking? Muslim extremists have been attacking innocent Christian targets since the inception of their religion. In recent years, attacks on churches in Muslim countries/area are commonplace (read news from the Philippines, for instance), and it is not surprising to see the reverse start happening especially with the fairly longstanding problems of immigration in Europe, particularly with Muslim immigration (and a distinct lack of integration by those immigrants).

Perhaps if the Muslims started policing their own house...

I think van Gogh was an atheist...

is unwilling or unable to protect them, also when it does stuff like this to make it worse.

Here is freedom of speech Euro Style.

In the Netherlands, artist Chris Ripke reacted to the murder on Theo Van Gogh by an islamic fundamentalist by painting a mural with the text "Gij zult niet doden" ("Thou Shalt Not Kill"), one of the ten commandments of the Christian religion.

But because the head of the nearby mosque complained to the police that this was 'offensive' and 'racist', the cops came and sent in city workers to sandblast the mural. A local journalist, Wim Nottroth, who wanted to protest against this by standing in front of the mural was arrested.

BTW yeah its a pretty crappy mural, but still, that was wrong.

He was, from what I remember reading. I wasn't relating attacks on Christian churches to the assassination of van Gogh. My comments were related to the attacks on mosques, and the outrage expressed over those attacks. If the same people expressing their horror over these attacks also condemn the hundreds if not thousands of attacks on Christian targets over the past decades, then perhaps I'll listen to their lamentations. If not, they can suck on their hypocrisy. I see many Muslim countries, organizations, and individuals crying foul when Muslims are attacked (typically as a result of a Muslim extremist attack -- say 9/11, the Bali boming, or Madrid), but then not saying anything when Christians are attacked. You can't have it both ways. If you condone or at least accept attacks on Christian (or Jewish for that matter) targets, then you should be willing to accept attacks on Muslim targets. Reciprocity.

The backlash against Muslims is going to continue to grow in Europe, and there will almost certainly be at least one country that will elect a far-right leader and began mass deportations. The Vlaams Blok have already become the largest political party in Belgium on the platform of deporting all Arabs. Attacks like these in the neighboring Netherlands will continue to add to the support of the slain Fortuyn's followers. You have Haider in Austria, LePen in France, NDP in Germany, etc.

If only the muslims could just co-exist silently. Whenever someone critisizes them, they make huge noise/ riot/ kill the ones doing that. And then they wonder why other people don't like them???

Some of the stuff that the van Gogh guy said and wrote was pretty inflammatory. Things like all Muslim men have to beat their wives, etc. Things like that deserves criticism in return, but obviously not riots/killing, but that could deserve protests.
