Below is a link to a PSU wattage calculator. Find out what power supply you need. It helps to pick the right size according to your hardware needs and design.
It helped me not oversize and pay less/ Or for some who undersize their power supply.

The problem is that not all PSUs are built the same. Some 300W PSUs are absolute monsters belying their rating and similarly some 500W PSUs are absolute junk and perform nowhere near their ratings. It's nice for an idea but checking out PSU reviews and seeing what kind of system the PSU is successfully running is much more useful.

The tool is nice, and should be useful. I agree with the above statment about the quality of the PSU being important. But this would be a good reference. Knowing what you need, for when you buy a quality PSU is still important.

Well according to that site I am going to need 620watts for my SLI 7800GTX dualcore watercooled X2 system. DOH. I have the Seasonic 600watt PSU. Again, DOH. I think 36amps on the 12v rail will do it.

I agree with poster above me. He wasn't slamming the OP original post. He was simply stating it wasn't cut and dry so any noobs who happen to see this thread wouldn't think that is the end all of power supply information.

Yeah, it's not very accurate..... I don't know of any that are.
 
That calculator doesn't really have many of my components, but I get 620W with the closest selections, which seems about right, since my 510W couldn't push enough and I had to add in an additional 550W.
 
Your missing the point, it tells you what the MAX is for your setup. It's doubtful it will ever achieve that.

Please Note: The Wattages listed below are maximum peak wattages for each component. The total amount this calculator figures is for all devices running at peak utilization.

Yep... I've got a 460w and a 660w in here. I know what you mean. 🙂 (721w on the calculator)

Even for my upcoming rig it recommended well over a 500w. Yet I know a Fortron AX500-A (which is actually 460w) would be more then enough for just about every system.

Look u twit- If U and other smart mouth jerk look closer at the link I provided, U'll see there are other links in it concerning good PSU and where and how and good readings. Dont need U or ur bed buddy tell me what I already know or read in the link I provided.
