I recently purchased a 4870 x2 and I was surprised at how hot those things run. I did post an thread about the issue and other members did confirm that they are meant to run that hot.

at the moment my card idles about 80c and on load can get up to 98c with the fan at 100% and that is my problem the noise really annoys me so I have decided to get a water block.

what I want to ask is which company should I go with and have you guys recommendations from personal experience

I have seen a used ek-fc 4870 X2 on ebay currently going for £22

I can't vouch for the 4870x2 version, but I have the EK full cover/acetal block on a 4870 and it's worked fine for over a year now.

And yes, those 4870x2s run far too hot! They draw nearly the same current on idle as with a load - very inefficient design there. Brilliant for gaming though!

is your X2 a MARS edition?? or an ASUS funky edition?

or we talking straight up reference card?

My first recomendation would go out to koolance, because of standoff's.
My second recomendation would go out to DD, because it has standoff's as well, but i think the koolance block is better.
My third recomendation is the EK, as its lacking standoff's, and a lot of people have shorted there card from overtightening, and or bad contact on that generation of EK.

EK now offers there new blocks with standoff's...

If you want to see my crusade on getting standoff's for us... you can start reading it here:

BTW i am Naekuh on XS. :)

its a reference design

Then yes all the blocks i listed will work.

So will that EK.

But be very careful if your going to mount that.

That thread i started was specifically because of the EK X2 block.
When my friends who been watering longer then i have started shorting there X2's i knew it was a problem.

i have the EK 4870X2 water block and works great but you MUST ask EK for stand offs and you just put them between the card and the waterblock before screwing together and works great but without standoffs will short the card for sure
also make sure you have reference size card so the screw holes line up :]

However i would make sure you check reseller raitings on the store b4 you buy.

Some of those stores are great tho.

Also the EK block isnt bad, just email EK and ask for the standoff's.

Eddy's CS is great as long as you act civil.
