Water Wetter and Tygon tubing

The anecdotal evidence that Water Wetter stains Tygon tubing is starting to mount. Increasing numbers of people at Overclockers are starting to report pink staining. Moreover, the staining actually penetrates into the wall of the tubing and thus can't be cleaned. Being that Tygon is expensive as tubing goes, and the benefits of Water Wetter are dubious at best, using another additive may be in order.

Yeh I am glad I went with Primoflex, UV reactive green. $1 a foot. This tubing is really easy to work with and bend really tight without kinking. Also, once you install it on a barb, it is really hard to remove because is grips so well. I used all colered zip ties with my rig, no need for steel clamps with this tubing.

I've been wanting to try PF. The review I read said that it's every bit as elastic as Tygon and you don't need dye. In my own experience I've found that whether tubing really sticks to a barb depends on the composition and design of a barb. The barbs on the DD blocks I have are nickel-plated and single-ring. Anything less than a spiral clamp and the tubing WILL shift on the barbs the second you try to move it around. Granted pulling on tubing isn't something that many people do often, but it does happen and any leak, anytime, just blows. 😉

Water Wetter is pink. What do you expect?

Just because it's pink doesn't mean it should automatically stain your tubes. It was also VERY highly recommended by the old-school crowd, with no indication given that staining would occur. What do >I< expect? I expect that people shouldn't offer advice without having at least some idea of what they're talking about.

Replace all your tubing with HY-1000 Stainless Steel. It is reported to be extremely resistant to dye contamination. I seriously doubt you would ever see it in a lifetime.

Now that's an interesting idea, T. Have you done this yourself or know anyone who has? Two drawbacks though: A configuration like this would lock everything in place; You'd have t have fingers like needles just to attach the blocks. Custom lengths and joint connections would be a nightmare without a LOT of machining knowledge and the right tools.
