I tried Gold, Plastic, 'Real" Tin Can, aluminum can, and steel pipe.

the water all taste different. And yes they were all cleaned with dishwash liquid Three times prior to the test.

Psst: I pee'd in them after you washed them. :p

So you are saying the quarterback's cup tastes different than the fullback's?

Plus the scent of the cups can alter the way you think the water tastes.

This was going to be my suggestion. I'd go a bit further and say that practically all the flavor difference you perceive between cups made of solid, relatively indissoluble materials (plastic, glass, metal, etc.) is caused by the different scents of the materials.

I'm picky about what i drink water from. Glass >>>>> all. Nalgene bottles are pretty similar. Cheap plastic and metal are a no go.

And since taste is mostly smell anyway it's no wonder they taste different. Plus there's the whole "mouthfeel" thing.

^^^ Both of these things: smell and mouth feel. Even color can have an effect.
