What would make the water around my house start pouring in a yellowish color like ice tea on and off?

My guess is rust. If there were any pressure surges in your water system recently you could be seeing the results of a crud burst.

You need to run your water until it goes clear. That stuff could be more than just iron oxide, it could be lead too. And other miscellaneous metal oxides.

Sounds like rust wsa blocking something and gettin you the low pressure. THen it broke free but now the rust is in the water. You'll have to check all the faucets to try to narrow down where in the pipes it is. If it's on all of them it could even be before the pipes enter your house in which case you'd have to call the local building inspector type people to see if they can come fix it.

Good Luck.

I lived in upstate NY for a year a few years back. That was the natural state of the water leading into my house on a daily basis. I had to use a water treatment system. I got so used to it that when I moved to VA (where the water's biggest issue is overchlorination) I had one installed here as well. :) I'm a water snob now.
