I've no idea where to search for info, and barely an idea of what I'm looking for, so I thought I would start here.

I'm looking for a water filter system to connect to outdoor garden hoses to wash cars with. I've used the Mr. Clean Auto Dry system, and really like it. My only complaint is how quickly I go through filters. I would like something that would allow ALOT more use between replacements. It would have to filter any of the impurities that leave water spots.

Hit me with your suggestions if you have them.

Go to your nearest RV supply store. They should have an inline filter like you are wanting. My RV has a filter under the kitchen and bathroom sinks, but many do not and I see the inline filters connected to water supply hoses in campgrounds all the time.

Basically, all a filter will do is remove any sediments as well as chlorine and other contaminants.

To do away with water spots, you have to soften the water.

That will require a water softener, Reverse osmosis system, and/or de-ionizing filter.

If your water is anywhere as bad as mine, those DI cartridges in the Mr. Clean system last maybe 2 washes...

I've swapped e-mails with folks at some of the better filtration companies on this, and they all say there's no cost-effective way to filter/soften/deionize water for washing cars at home.
