Water fasting

lozina

Lifer
Anyone ever undergo a water fast or know someone who has? What was their experience?

Basically, you starve yourself only drinking water every day, absolutely no foods whatsoever.

Proponents say your body will begin to consume it's fat reserves which also harbor toxins you've accumulated through your life and allow them to be eliminated which may end up curing many diseases.

Critics say it's a stupid idea which will end up getting yourself killed.

So I was just wondering if anyone here has some actual first hand account of someone who tried this and how did it end up for them?

My church just went through a fast. The pastor did 4 days of just water then 3 days of fruits & veggies ... for 3 weeks. He seems OK. I didn't participate.

It IS a stupid idea that might get you killed. Sure you'll burn fat... but where will you get your required nutrients? You need more than just water to survive.

might want to go with that one

Your body has kidneys and liver for a reason; they process out the toxins in your body on a regular basis. If you're constantly replacing the toxins by eating junk, you will have toxins in your body. If you cut out the junk and eat healthy, your organs will process out the crap. Water-only makes no difference except that you rob yourself of nutrients, putting your body into starvation mode and depleting your muscle store.

Eat right and exercise. Unfortunately it's the only surefire health fit.

I did it for three days, plus three days of water with a small amount of honey, and then seven days of a very low calorie fruit juice with all my nutrients.

I was fine, lost a ton of lbs also.

yay!

I tried it. It lasted about 1 day and then I went into panic mode and devoured a 20 oz Sirloin and a put down a few Blue Moons.

Fasting is not for me and never will be. Seems dangerous, but some people get away with it.

My Grandmother drank nothing but water for a week and lost 22 lbs and never gained it back.

But she was WEAK and tired all day.

Do you remember why she did it? Was it for losing weight or for treating some illness?

I am interested in it not because of weight loss capabilities, as I am not overweight, but more for the possible toxins elimination theory.

It was strictly to lose weight. I believe her doctor recommended it actually... crazy guy he was.

Trying to get THC out of your body?

It does not eliminate toxins any more effectively than any other fat burning method (some toxins are fat-soluble). Eat healthy and do cardio and you'll take care of all the toxins stored in fat cells. Like I said, that's what half your internal organs are for.

Fasting can be quite healthful. It can also be dangerous if you don't do it right. You need to gradually reintroduce food, starting with fruit juice, then friut, then work your way up to more complex foods. This 'refeeding' period should last as long as the fast. I read a book some years back called Fasting:The Ultimate Diet and did a 3-day fast. One thing that I recall is being quite irritable during the fast itself, and having extreme halitosis. The book suggested fasting one day each week, but I'd be afraid to go to work while being so bitchy.

and there was this guy jesus who did it for 40 days out in the desert and he lived...
well sorta.

Two things:

1. It'll ruin your metabolism = you'll regain the weight that you've lost and then some once you start eating again.

2. Yes you'll burn fat... and you'll also burn musle. Makes point #1 a double whammy since you'll be replenishing fat when you eat, it won't replenish your musle unless you exercise.

In the end, you'll end up in worse shape.
