Was looking into the pros/cons of a water/juice fast for the purposes of Detoxification and/or weight loss. Been reading a lot online about it and wanted to know you guys' opinions and/or suggestions on the matter.

not a good idea. detox as in drug related? if for testing, don't bother. if for getting over withdrawl, go to a place that specializes in that. as for a more holistic detox, eat right and get plent of fiber, that'll clean you out well enough.

as for weight loss, no. yeah, you lose "weight" but not fat.

not detox for drugs...just the crap that builds up in your system....ive read that b/c of the typical US foods...bad crap will tend to build up in your system and just stay there cause your body is busy flushing out the food that it doesnt do anything about that. Going water only for a few days will help flush that stuff out...and from what I reads...helps you become a lot healthier. Im not TOO concerned with the weight loss part of it, but that would be a nice side effect ;)

well, then just eat a little healthier and eat plenty of fiber and you'll be okay. most of that holisitc detox/cleansing is b.s. sure, you can accumulate "buil-up" in your colon, but where else do they say you're building up toxins?

I dont think they mean the colon...but to be honest...i have no idea :p Guess i should read a little more...but overall I think it might be a good experience....ive heard ppl have good results in the long run (those who fast 24 hrs every few months).

There was this girl that I used to work with that did this detox stuff and wouldn't eat for like 2 days.

She swore by the stuff

Other than a few select vitamins and minerals, there is nothing that tends "to build up in your system". There aren't mythical mystery parts of food that just build and build and build. And your body parts are typically quite independant. Just because your liver is doing one thing doesn't mean your kidney will just stop doing its job. Thus the idea that your body won't "doesnt do anything about that" is rediculous.

There are a few select well-known things that can build. For example, mercury can build in your body. Mercury is consumed from certain types of fish. If mercury is a problem, just stop eating the mercury filled fish. You don't have to stop eating everything. Just eat mercury free foods.

how long are you going to fast and what kind of fast are you going to do?

btw, don't expect to drop much fat on a fast, mostly just water and muscle.

Honestly I have no idea....but probably only water/Juice, and I dont really expect to lose fat..I know you have to exercise to lose that (something I do normally anyways)

do NOT exercise while fasting (yoga or stretching may be okay though.. nothing major).

In my opinion there isn't that many physical benefits to fasting but I think that mentally it can be a good practice for discipline and what not.

Make sure you read about how to prepare for a fast and how to come off a fast so you don't get sick.

let us know how it goes if you decide to do it.

What trustworthy medical journals did you read this in? Didn't think so...

Fasting screws your body up and creates "crap that will tend to build up in your system and just stay there" as your metabolism does weird things when there is no food to be processed for energy.

it seems that there are extremely varied opinions on the idea...which is true for any diet plan I suppose.

note that the opinions coming from the pro-fasting side usually lack "MD" after their name and often also have websites selling crystals and patchouli...

I have thought about doing it for a while, but I would be pretty pissed off for the days I was fasting. I doubt I would have the will power to do it too.
