Pump: Laing DDC with Petra top
Reservoir: Swiftech MCRES Micro
Radiator: Black Ice GTX 240
Mounting: Swiftech MCB-120
CPU Block: Swiftech Apogee GTX
Fans are Silverstone FM-121
Tubing is masterkleer 7/16

Goodguy and I must be reading the same threads :).

your radiator wont be able to handle a overclocked quad.

Well it will do a decient job, however its not whats usually recomended for overclocking quads.

You need to upgrade the radiator to a 320.

A 320 would pose some installation challenges but is doable if necessary. How much would it help to go with dual pumps in series?

the answer to that would depend on how long of tubing you used. What blocks you have, and what pumps you wish to pair up.

Cant give you a direct answer because in some cases, it wouldnt help.
Most people do it to add redundancy incase of pump failure.

But in a highly restrictive loop, dual pumps can merit about 7-10C decrease in load temps.

I consulted with Dan at Danger den support regarding the adequacy of the Black Ice 240 with an overclocked Q6600 and he replied as follows:

"The 240 will work well for you, the CPU and 8800 later and even if you added 2 8800s.

I run a 240GTX with a Quad 6700 OCed to 3.5 with one 8800GTX, Bad axe chipset and cool two Raptors (aqua drive cooler) and my temps on the CPU are in the mid 50s to lower 60s under load so you will be fine with your set up."

I didn't address the concept of dual pumps with him. I will wait and see if I need more cooling once everything is in place.

O M G

Im gonna have to steal this and post it up on XS.

This is way too funny..

For the record. Swiftech MCR220 is the second best radiator. We have shown it to do about near 300W-350W of heat with almost 12V fans. I would like to say the number is more around the 275-300 mark.

NOW, a 240GTX will only match this with high velocity fans. So with super fans, it can pull ahead, so lets tweek this number a bit to around 325-350W.

Now a QUAD overclocked @ 1.5Vcore real... thats what it usually takes to hit 3.6ghz, unless you got a lucky bin which does it in 1.45V. This will put out aout 210W of heat.

Now you got a GTX which does about 170-200W of heat

Add the numbers up

380W - 410W

Tell dan, im very disapointed at this statement. He should be pointing you to a 360 series.

Also DD blocks are absolute CRAP. I honestly think that company is going down the hole if you look at danny's company D-tek, and gabes' company Swiftech.

According to your figures I should not have a problem then. The only block in my loop will be the CPU and at 210W I should have no problem with a rad at, say 275W (your lowest number). I do not plan to add a GPU and I am not using a DD block. My block is a Swiftech Apogee.

just to let you know. you never want to meet that max number.

A good spot would be 1/2 way or 2/3rds way to give you some headroom.

And i never ever would recomend a 220 radiator for a quadcore.

If you own one, and i personally own 3, you'll know first hand what i mean about these guys get hot.

to make it short, it wouldnt be worth the migration if your going to limit yourself on a 220 or a 120x2.
