Isn't NY under a water ban, or rationing?
How does this work?

If a person has a back yard garden, they are not allowed to water it?

If they own a hotel, with fountains and landscaping, they are allowed to water it?

Fountains recycle the water, so I don't think those are much of a problem.

Usually, you can only water your lawn during a window of a couple of hours.

I don't know about NY, but we have a watering ban ongoing here in Dekalb county GA. You can't do any outdoor watering at certain times of the day and/or certain days (ie- can water from 10pm to 10am on every other day....depends on your home address. Even numbered address waters on even numbered days and vice versa).

Anywho, the ban extends to all forms of outdoor watering....washing your car, watering the lawn, everything. They're even talking about extending this to carwash joints if it gets bad enough.

In NJ it bans all sorts of watering. No car washing, no lawns, no gardens. I think they might even restrict filling up pools.
Also, restaurants are prohibited from giving out "cumpolsory" water and instead can only give it to you if you specifically ask.
Car washes are still open, and places that depend on watering for business purposes (namely farmers and golf courses) are still allowed to water the lawns and gardens.
I don't know how fountains work. The mall nearest me actually drained their fountain and has a sign saying it's dry to help conserve water and that any coins thrown into the empty fountain will go to the local fire dept.

hope we get a lot of rain this year. this week has been raining a lot and that helped a little. seems like we're running on water deficit every year for the past 5 years.

In SE PA, you can only wash your car from a bucket and a hose with an automatic shut-off head...and use that hose no more than 2 minutes. And that's only on Saturdays. And your address determines what Saturdays you can wash it (even addresses on first and third saturdays of the month, etc.)

It's a major PITA. I want a deluge of rain already.

I heard somewhere that the average suburban lawn uses 10,000 gallons of supplemental water each year and per area twice as many pesticides as farming.

I wish it would STOP raining here in Kansas. We're above the normal amt for this point in the year and it seems to rain on the weekends when i want to go to the lake or work outside.

oh yeah, my lawn also needs cut every 2-3 days. I have never had to cut the lawn so often before.
