Don't forget Ozymandias. Rorsarch died for his beliefs, for wanting to expose Ozy; Comedian was a dick, but he was doing his job for the government and apparently had a lot of regrets at the end of his life. Ozy killed millions and pinned it on his friend. Granted, he thought it was the good of humanity, but that's some sick shit.

If you fall into these categories, I'd suggest watching something like Twilight or the latest Will Farrel movie.

None of the characters were meant to be likeable with maybe the exception of Silk Spectre who was written as if Moore had to put her in but didn't really want to in the first place (IMO).

Yeah I was sad for what happened after Rorsach said "DO IT!". He was pretty cool, I liked his line in prison when he told the prisoners he wasn't locked in there with them, they were locked in with him.

They had actually hired a CGI studio to render the giant space squid ending but apparently thought it was too difficult for the common moviegoer to understand, so they altered the ending and thus the meaning with it. They also had to shorten the story a good bit so had to leave out chunks from the comic that would add cohesion to the movie.

This is essentially one of the main problems with the movie industry as we know it - movies are based around 1.5 to 3 hour common format and the entire story has to be shown during that time. Any longer than 3 hours and they lose money, any shorter than 1.5 and people complain. Had they created the full Watchmen comic in movie format it probably would have been 10 hours long.

It's one of the main reasons we can't really have more complex storylines in the usual movie format without going to a lower budget series mode in order to give more time to explain the concepts being presented. Watchmen would make an excellent anime series for instance.

I actually thought the movie ending worked much better than the comic ending. The comic ending worked fine, for the comic, but it would have been quite ludicrous on screen in my opinion.

I'm glad you see something positive in it, but I had no strawman. IMO, not even a perfect adaptation of the story arc, with the paralleling pirate comic, could have converted those who detest the film. It is simply a matter of personal taste.

I think some are also too disturbed by the subject matter, particularly Doc Manhattan's ascendancy to Godhood.

It didn't have to be an alien squid. It could have been any kind of alien monster. But by blaming Doctor Mahattan, they completely changed the meaning of the ending.

I saw the movie in theaters and had no idea what to expect. It was certainly not a run-of-the-mill mindless superhero movie, and I liked the cinematography and non-Hollywood ending. I have to agree with Skoorb that I thought the movie was too long and dragged in parts. I'm not sure how I felt about it, but usually if a movie leaves me thinking about it after its over I consider it a success, and that certainly applies here.
