Watchmen reviews start to come in

R rating, plus being two hours and forty-three minutes in length. I am so glad they didn't dumb it down to PG-13. 😀

I knew about the rating but holy crap that seems long.

I'm not surprised at the length. That's alot of content to try to cram into a movie. And they're not even including the meta-comic or other background stuff.

I'll be interested to see what is cut out.

Honestly, they could have broken it into two movies at a minimum and had plenty of material to fill it, but since it isn't a recurring property like Harry Potter it probably would have suffered for it. I wish they could have stretched it to three or three and a half hours, but I don't know if they would have been able to flesh out the additional detail they could have added in with that amount of extra time.

Actually, according to Zack Snyder, the movie could have been longer, and will be on the forthcoming DVD/Blu-Ray releases. On the next Director's Cut it will be 3hrs 10mins long and the Ultimate Cut released next fall will be 3hrs 25mins long.

Isn't there going to be a director's cut version that's almost 4 hours? I seem to remember hearing about it but it may have just been speculation.

Yes. It's supposed to have the Tales of the Black Freighter anime interwoven into the movie along with some cut scenes.

Yes, but not 4hrs long.- Reread my post:

Director's Cut: 3:10mins
Ultimate Cut: 3:25mins

I will be in the Lower '48 when it is released, and I know there are IMAX theatres in the area where I will be. I definitely want to see it in IMAX at least once. 😀

You know instead of worrying over a directors cut on a dvd how about they get the movie right when it is released in the theaters the first time and then see what they can add to make it even better.

The average movie going public has too short of an attention span and too small of a bladder. Plus a lot of the deeper themes from the book would probably be lost on a lot of people.

(You know a graphic novel moves beyond being a mere "comic" when a literature professor describes it as "wordy.")

I never doubted this movie would be good. There is such a cult following that if they fubared this, whoever was involved in its making would be unemployed. 🙂

I thought I was going to explode in the middle of the theater when we went to see Return of the King (3 hours 21 mins not including trailers).

I'm 1/3 of the way through the graphic novel and it is pretty damn awesome. Unfortunately I do not know a single person that wants to see this with me when it comes out. 🙁

If you bothered reading the Zack Snyder interview I linked to, you will see that the Director's Cut, will not only include the Theatrical Cut, but it will also have parts of the Black Freighter. The "Ultimate" cut coming later in the year will have even more stuff like the Hollis' death (if you read the book you know what I mean).

I read it, but it does not change the fact they cannot put out a 3+ hour comic-based movie and expect it to do very well.

I will enjoy the ultimate cut on Blu-ray once it comes out.

This movie better be good. I'm all excited for it because other people are excited for it, but secretly I think it all looks kind of lame. I'll see it no matter what though, as it's the first R-rated comic book movie ever if I'm not mistaken.
