WATCHMEN .... currently 63% at Rotten Tomatoes

Well, it was over 70% a few days ago. As is normal, a few reviews from the fanboys appear first giving it a good rating and by opening day, the rating will be lower. So, with 2 days till open, where will it land?

I was hoping to see it, but with this kind of response I might wait for DVD. I am not a fanboy so waiting 6 months does not bother me.

Anyone else's thoughts?

I will admit one thing though. Those reviewers that have read the book tend to like it less than people that are going to the movies to see a movie with no preconceived ideas.

I just got back from seeing it at my nearby theatre (screener) 🙂

Pretty interesting movie.
I'm not good at summing things up, but it's something that needs to be watched.

I quite enjoyed it; would say 9/10.

Curious- Were you a fan of the graphic novel before going in or did you go in blind?

Never read the graphic novel, but so far I'm not that interested. I'll probably just wait for the DVD on this one.

Never read the graphic novels, but I've liked almost every super-hero movie to date. Looks like it's easily worth the trip. Especially with the student discount around here. 😀

Really looking forward to X-Men Origins: Wolverine though. Was obsessed with the series in elementary school.

Never read it.

I'd easily rank this amongst the best graphic novel/comic movies i've seen...personally, likely this would be my favorite actually.

It's a really dark gritty movie though.
Pretty much makes The Dark Knight seem like a kid's movie.

I can't wait till tomorrow to see it. I can't believe it is getting bad reviews, but it is probably because it is a little too unfriendly to the general average person.

Ugh, you had to bring up the Wolverine movie. It looks so awful, I have no hope for it at all. Of course I have not liked quite a bit of the superhero movies.

Personally, while the effects look nice, I have pretty much no interest in Watchmen. I haven't read the graphic novel, so I'm sure thats a big part of why, but eh.

most top critics don't like it though so far

is my sarcasm meter broken? did we read the same article? Ebert didn't have a bad thing to say about it... he even said -
The film is rich enough to be seen more than once. I plan to see it again, this time on IMAX, and will have more to say about it. I?m not sure I understood all the nuances and implications, but I am sure I had a powerful experience. It?s not as entertaining as ?The Dark Knight,? but like the ?Matrix? films, LOTR and ?The Dark Knight,? it?s going to inspire fevered analysis. I don?t want to see it twice for that reason, however, but mostly just to have the experience again.

ive read the 1st 2 chapters of it, but comics weren't ever really my thing so it never grabbed my interest. I personally think the majority of the comic movies released in the past few years are all pretty much garbage with a few exceptions. Had high hopes for this, I'll reserve my judgment till I watch in on IMAX screen. 🙂

Might go up on release since the fanboys who dont have access to prescreeners will get to watch and rate it.

and gave it 4 out of 4 stars...

granted, I think 0roo0roo might have been pointing out an exception to the top critics, or perhaps he was being sarcastic, or perhaps he doesn't consider ebert a top critic... 😛

I think this is probably just going to be one of those LOTR situations where there is no way die hard fans of the book are going to be completely satisfied with the movie, but movie goers who haven't read it prior to seeing will really like it. And the super ridiculously long extended edition is going to be all that much better just like with LOTR to the point you wish there was a super duper extended edition and wouldn't care if the movie was 5 hours

Most top critics panned it.
I'll withhold my judgment after viewing but the critics think it was too jammed in - maybe it should've been spread out over 2 or 3 films.
*i've never read the comic*

Watchmen is unlike any other super hero movie/book out there. I just finished reading it a couple days ago. I found the novel so interesting that I actually called out of work one day to finish the damn book. When I started reading it, I was like "WTF, this isnt what I expected to be reading." Will definitely be watching the movie, although I have a feeling I wont be enjoying the movie as much simply because I now know how the story goes

I'd still watch it if it had 15%. Do you ever read the reviews that make up the score? Half those guys don't sound qualified to write a book report when you actually read their shit...does RT scale all reviews the same?

And everyone has different tastes anyway.

I think 0roo0roo was trying to say this:

Ebert liked it, here's a link to prove it, but most OTHER top critics don't like it though
