I have a Leadtek Winfast 2000XP TV Tuner, which has different video inputs. What I'm wondering is whether it would be better to buy an external dvd player so I can transfer it to my tv and computer or buy an internal computer dvd player? Will this work with the 2000xp?

Thanks for any help.

The better your TV the more you should look at a standalone DVD player. If you have a decent TV, what would be the purpose of watching DVD's on your monitor?

I do not have a television in my bedroom and would like to watch movies on it sometimes... on the other hand when I have guests over or whatever I would like to maybe watch a dvd in the family room on the television. The main question is whether an external dvd player will work with the 2000xp hookups??

Yes, but it'll have serious scaling/interpolation issues similar to any NTSC video feed from an external source. You'll need a de-interlacer/image scaler like Dscaler to clear up the issues. My suggestion would be to get the DVD drive and use a software DVD player, which essentially does the same thing Dscaler does but optimizes it for DVD playback. Not only that, but instead of having to run the audio to your soundcard or HTPC directly, the DVD player will run audio through your sound card. Lots of ways to manage this sound set-up, but if you are planning to use PC speakers, running the signal through the various Dolby features of your sound card is the best option.

Oh, ok. I have never heard of anyone buying a standalone player with intentions of hooking it up to their PC, so it didn't occur to me you didn't have a TV. If that is the case definitely go for the DVD-ROM drive and software player, it is cheaper and in this case will look much better than running a standalone through your TV card.

I've plugged an External DVD Player into my Video in before and the quality isn't bad. The quality of a software decoder is much better however. It's also a lot cheaper as well.

I second the internal dvd player from newegg. Mine looks great on my 19" monitor.
