Watched Rizen stream... Am I misunderstanding this?

Finally got around to watching the video. Am I seeing too much into this or did the way Dr. Su present the base frequency seem to say that 3.4ghz is the base clock for the lowest SKU? It seemed to me like she was discussing the whole family of SKUs when talking about 3.4 or higher. Given there are 2 SKUs with 8 cores, wouldn't that guarantee the top one has a higher base?

I know there's a thread on Rizen itself. But I didn't see it being about this specifically. Figured this was different enough but if mods want to join, that's fine.

Ok I will try to reply.

It would be reasonable enough to assume that if AMD can launch 8C/16T version of the chip that can run at least @ 3.4Ghz base clock then it follows that they are able to produce SKUs that have 2x (4C/8T) and 33% (6C/12T) less cores while running at the same or better clock speeds.

A bit OT, but I find it interesting that you've watched a 1 hour stream centered around a single product, with its name on-screen for large amounts of time, and you still consistently misspell it.

For now, AMD seems to be presenting Ryzen as a single SKU. Wether this is the top-of-the-line 8-core SKU of a range of options at launch or if they launch carefully with just the one (with lower clocked SKUs to come later), that's the one they're focusing on. That's generally how these things go - the attention is around the top-end models.

Able they will be,the question is if they are going to sell top binned CCXs at low margins or if they are going to try to sell them to the server market for as much as possible.
Unless yields have improved so much that 3,4 is not rare anymore.

Oh definitely, I would expect them to use the top binned parts for server.

TBH the auto overclocking thing is pretty genius. As long as the core is working and can hit 3.4 Ghz, it's good. Voltage needed for working clocks, etc, isn't an issue. Or at least that's what it sounded like. There's certainly a risk that this is going to become a silicon lottery type deal.
