The BB by us just opened about a month ago, and my friend works there. This sunday they are having a "friend and family night" where people who work there can bring friends and family to receive the same discount they get (I believe they get 4% above cost for BB).

Anyone have experience with these family and friend nights?
Just wondering how much markup they actually have.

close: 5% above cost
markups are huge in video, appliances, audio, furnitures, car-fi, accessories
markups in other departments are insignificant

never heard of a friends and family night promo.. might be local
I love discounts. I work 10 hours a week just to get that.

instead of 20% off wireless accessories, mine has 10% off $350+ PDAs, PDA accessories, and software...which is kind of lame because the "big" 10% off coupon already coveris these items. :frown:

Last time, they had a "virtual coupon" to be printed for the 10% off. Does anyone know if this exists this time?

Thanks!

Mine has a 10% off music and movies (up to five titles total) and the 10% off $350+ PDAs, accessories, and software. ONly good part of that last one is if you're buying a $300 PDA and a modem or summat for it. Otherwise what's the point of two of the same? Either way, good deals.

I used to be a supervisor in the computer dept many years ago and I moved to their headquarters and did MIS for their service center networks. When they merged the Corp MIS & Service Center MIS, I got laid off, but continued to work in IT elsewhere.

I'm thinking of working at a store part-time just to get a couple extra $$$ and get the discount again. I sure miss that. High end audio & video has alot of margin. Esp speakers. Furniture too.

I got mine in the mail thursday too. Usually, these arrive 2 days after the sale is over. They must be really hurting to send this out so early.

50% off maybe? :)
since retail price are so jacked up to the max, this would make it cheapest but bb thrive on greed.
Dell have sweet deal once in awhile, I doubt they will ever do anything like that even if they have sucked people dry as a bone.

Nordic,

They don't have any real high-end AV equipment. Only things that may be worth getting the discount on are the JBL Studio Series speakers and the Toshiba Widescreen Hi-Def TV's. I became disgruntled with the way they operate after a month of working there part time...

I have the coupon and it doesn't say anything about a CRT Monitor.
Does anyone think that you can get a CRT monitor for 10% off?

<< Either by using their cc or from buying online. >>

I think you get on their list by buying extended warranties too.
>>

I don't have a Best Buy credit/debit card, have never purchased anything online from them, and until a few weeks ago had never purchased an extended warranty from them. Nevertheless, I've received these "preferred customer" mailings fairly regularly for at least 3 years -- with only minor absences after moving to a new apartment or home.

If you use your credit card (Visa/MC/etc) for a purchase, they electronically authorize the card through their CC authorization bureau. As part of the authorization process, they are probably able to obtain your name and address.
