This concerns abreviations. Let me state at the outset that I do NOT have a problem with vulgar language, and I am very free in using it as needed. I'm referring to the beginning of a post title in which the first word is "WTF". Does the poster think this makes him "cool"? I think it childish and I wonder what others may think.

My take?

When in Rome, don't complain about Latin. You're on an internet forum that is populated by lots of people in the 15-24 age range. There's going to be a lot of childish behavior, especially as Anandtech gets more popular. This is the way that some people talk on the internet, and in real life.

How is it offensive to anyone? It's just an expression used to exclaim, like "hey!!" or "woah?!?". It's not used (in most cases) in an offensive manner.

Something like "fvck" or "sh!t" is offensive because they're using the word, just getting around the ban filter. (without breaking rules) If that particular synonym bothers you that much then ignore it. You said yourself you're a regular user of vulgar language - how is that not childish but a synonym as the first word in a post childish?

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? :Q

OTOH, maybe we should have a rule here similar to a rule in another tech forum; something like...

"No cussing in the post titles, damnit!"

😉

I am NOT offended...I simply think it's stupid. If you think I'm stupid for starting this, then fvck off. I'm making an observation about our language skills or lack thereof.
