Watch stopping and starting

My gf's mom recently bought me a nice Croton watch. About a week into owning it, it stopped. Bummer, I thought. Dead battery. But then, it started again. Ok. A few days later it stopped again. Then started again about 24 hours later.

Is the battery dying, or is some other problem abound?

Yup.

So either the battery is bad, which seems a bit unlikely in a new watch, or there's another problem.

My suggestion w/b to return it for another if you can.
