Couple years ago parent's bought similar house in Bay Area for 1.8 mil.... *sighs* I hate house prices here

I think so. You can get one that uses metal beams, but I think it's still more expensive than wood.

quick question, did you opt to get all the cold and hot water pipes insulated? also did you get the drain pipes insulated for noise and such? looks like some interior walls are even insulated in the house.

All the pipes are insulated standard with this builder. The walls around the master bedroom and the utility room are insulated against noise. I'm not sure about the drain pipes though, didn't think to check.
