Watch my house being built

wyvrn

Lifer
After two months of paperwork and waiting on the city, our house is finally getting built. Included 3 pics of finished model home and our floorplan. Move-in is mid-August. After years of waiting for my own home, this is really cool! I will keep the thread updated from time to time.

Do what my friend did - get an outdoor remote controllable network camera and put it on a pole at the site. You get to watch your house being built in real time!

It looks pretty nice. One thing I've never understood is why people would want their bedrooms on the first floor on a 2 story house. Our house in Texas has all of the bedrooms upstairs. It just seems nice to keep our living area separate from the sleeping area.

Agree. But most of the home builders don't have designs like this. Almost all have been master down, bedrooms up. One was master up, but the staircase was facing the door and my wife didn't like it (fung schue thing).

Where are you in Texas?

how close are you to the neighbors house there.....

We will be living in DFW metroplex, mid-cities area. The losts are a bit small, but we really really liked the area and the backyard isn't too bad, about 20 foot to the fence. Plus our front yard will be a nice size. We could have doubled our lot size, but in order to do so had to either pay a very hefty premium (like 40K because it was a nicer area) or moved on the edges of the metroplex, which presents transportation problems. Mainly because our rail system doesn't go out there yet.

Interesting. Can you give specifics on how he did it?

We lived in apts where we could see our house being built. Needless to say I have lots of pics of the progress, but, I've since taken them down since nobody really cared. (WebHits = 99% mine). 'course I never posted on ATOT.

Looks like a nice home. Would have tried to get a bit deeper of a garage, 19.x' is a bit short if you plan to park in it. Especially in FL w/ hurricane code garage door that has 1' beems attached. I learned that the hardway.

pretty coool... what happens if it rains and soaks all those beams... doesn't affect it long term ?

Wow, that's a pretty sexy design. Are the ceilings in the MB the full high of the house or are they slanted? I couldn't figure that out from the diagram.

Seems cool.

but no basement?

I can see a master on the first becasue of getting old. That and I always thought parents liked it becasuse they could moniter the kids, and casue they could be more aware if there was a break-in or something like that...

The roof slants down in the back, and the master has higher ceilings but not full ceilings like in the living area. Would be nice though 🙂

I wondered the same thing. But dunno. Doesn't ever seem to faze the builders. I'll ask my brother in law, who works at a builder in Houston.

No basements in Texas? Do you know the square footage?

TX usually doesn't have basements unless you live in tornado alley in the panhandle. There is really no need for them in North Texas, as we get the occasional tornado warnings but not a lot of touchdowns. The square footage is going to be about 3100 with the media room addition. BTW, we removed the second bath upstairs and extended the media room into that space, which gives about an extra 4 feet in length. 😀 One of my first projects is going to be equipping and decorating it like a movie theatre. Should be fun!

SO PRETTY! How much did it cost you?

Looks like around 210k or so.

wyvrn, here's the best of luck to you my friend with your new home

Thank you, Roger. It's been a long time in coming. I feel very lucky at this moment.

Awesome! When Skoorbie and I built, we engraved our initials in the stud by the front door....

Neat idea. My wife and I will have to think of something to commemorate the occasion.

It looks like it's going to be a very nice home for you, congratulations. I'd love to own something like that one day.
